1 Laffin Juliet, trained by Delta Farms
After a decent second on debut, she battled bravely to win a CD maiden. Both those runs were good efforts, but she really proved her metal when tested in the listed Debutante Stakes where she ran out a fairly comfortable one length winner. She has plenty of early pace, which will help from this gate, and her works are showing the same improvement as her form, so there are plenty of plus’s next to her name.
2 Charm, trained by Night Mare Racing
Won on debut at SA, which as we know is no easy feat and then followed that up with a competent run in the Landuluce Stakes. She ran on strongly to be beaten only a length in fourth
place, and this extra half furlong is sure to suit her. Her works are good, but a little off Laffin Juliet, so she will need to show some improvement to take this.
3 I Figured, Sanny Village
A very easy winner at BTP on debut, she looks a nice sort, but is hard to weigh up on that effort. The winning time was pretty good, and she is entitled to improve with that being her debut, so it wouldn’t surprise to see her running a big race today.
4 Gothom City, trained by TwinTowersRacing
Also won a BTP maiden pretty easily, but that was on her second attempt. She looks a tick behind the principles here, but this will be a good test for her to see if she can make the grade,
5 Hong Kong Queen, trained by Manco Sequndo
A winner of a WO maiden on her second start, she then ran a creditable second in the Cassidy on offish ground. Bought for just $2.000, she would certainly be the story of the race, and with a wide gate and the probable leader, it will be down to track bias as to whether she can win.
SUMMARY
It’s a shame only five two year olds are competing for a $200.000 prize, especially when you consider a fair track maiden will go with a full field with plenty of similar horses in it. That being said, this is an interesting race, I have a feeling that Laffin Juliet will be too good, but I rather like I Figured to run a big race and would put her in my exacta.
