The Saranac- GIII
SAR Race 10 1 1/8M- Turf
Purse $300.000
Three Year Olds
A small of five three year old turf routers will be lining up for the grade three Saranac. It’s a small field but definitely doesn’t look like it’s short on talent. Most of the runners are coming out of graded stakes races in here. Let’s take a look at small field of five and see who the winner is.
1. The Drifter (12-3-3-1 $219.080), trained by D J C Racing Stables
The inside runner in this small field comes out of the D J C Racing Stables barn and is coming in here off of a second place finish in the grade three La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar on the west coast. Before that he won a stake at Belmont on the turf so he definitely has a chance and I think he can win for sure
2. Winter Solstice (8-1-3-3 $47.990), trained by Maxmillion Farm
This gelding was bought for ten dollars before his last start and he made up for that when he ran third in the grade two Nijinsky at Woodbine against older horses. That was going a mile and a half so he will be shortening up quite a bit in here but he has a good chance. He also has the best turf trainer in the game.
3. Lane Frost (11-4-2-0 $413.440), trained by Sanny Village
This colt is coming in here off of some not so great races on the triple crown trail and is finally making a return to the turf. He is four for four in the money on the turf with three wins. If he runs back to those races he definitely has a chance to win. I think he will run a pretty big race in here.
4. Living Healthy (12-2-2-2 $226.380), trained by First Class Stable
This horse will be trying the turf for the first time ever in his career so not exactly how he is going to handle it. I think this is a move to try and get the horse back running good but I’m not sure if he will like the turf or run good on it. If he does maybe this is what he needed to be on all along.
5. Battle Of Midway (7-1-2-2 $63.780), trained by Spankys Barn
This horse is definitely the least accomplished in the race as he is coming off of a maiden special weight win in his last start. He did impressively that day as he won by three lengths but that was only with maiden company. He will need to run the race of his life to win in here no doubt about it.
Summary
Well I think this race comes down to the inside three horses. Lane Frost is making his first start on the turf in a while but he was very good on it when he was racing on it. The inside runner and the two horse are also looking pretty good but I’m going to give the nod to Lane Frost on his return to turf.
