Three weeks ago, Let Me Explain became a BC Champion, winning the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, a victory that at the time was her fifth in a row. Unquestionably, she established herself as the queen of the turf for two-year-olds, but Mb Stables still had more work for her to do this year. Entered in the Golden Rod, Let Me Explain was running on the dirt for just the second time, but it seemed like something she might like. This was a good opportunity for the filly, and she would shake off the outside post en route to wire victory! It’s the fourth win in this race for Mb Stables, who also won in 2017, 2018, and 2020 with Most Charming, Dream Whisperer, and Story To Tell. Jockey P Lopez is a first-time winner. Congratulation to them! The time of the win was 1:42.38, a middle of the road such time for the race. Let’s take a look at it!
(1/4 Mile- :22.97)- Trinni would break the quickest out of the gate, for Allinthegate, but she would be passed in the opening turn by Let Me Explain, the eventual winner out of Mb Stables. The turf star was not messing around, either, opening up approximately a length and a half advantage. After these first two, New Vision (La Canada Racehorses) and Hershey (Fractious) ran side by side, with both Princess Floral (Fractious) and Age Of Aquarius (Calia Stable) running nearby. Double Zee (TwinTowersRacing) was next, followed by Gospel (Team 7 Illusions) and Jawaher (D J C Racing Stables). The traileres are Midnight Rumble (Riggins Racing) and Lawbreaker (Diablo Diablo).
(½ Mile- :46.57)- Down the backstretch we go and Let Me Explain is cruising on the front end as she has a comfortable two length advantage. The rest of the field is not concern with the fact that a BC Champion may be pulling away, and Trinni is by herself two lengths back. Behind her, it starts to get very tight between the likes of New Vision, Hershey, Princess Floral, and Age Of Aquarius, but none of them are making much of push. Neither are Double Zee and Gospel. Jawaher is next, ahead of Midnight Rumble and Lawbreaker.
(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Let Me Explain continues to have an easy go of it right now, as no one is able to challenge her for the lead. That advantage is still about two lengths, and the one who had been the closest pursuer, Trinni, was showing signs of tiring. New Vision was about to take over the second spot and was a length ahead of a now six-wide group between Princess Floral, Age Of Aquarius, Gospel, Hershey, Double Zee, and Jawaher. Midnight Rumble looked to make a wide move out of the turn and Lawbreaker remained at the back.
(Finish- 1:42.38)- It’s a good thing that Let Me Explain did open up a big deal at the top of the stretch, because she would start to tire out in the later stages, allowing others to potentially snag the win out from under her. If there was a hard charger at this point, the race would have been theirs, but instead the gradual progress of everyone else simply meant the margins to the leader and eventual winner, Let Me Explain, would be smaller. The pacesetter did indeed hold on, ultimately in a photo over New Vision and Jawaher. Gospel was next, ahead of the closing Midnight Rumble and Lawbreaker. Rounding it out, it’s Princess Floral, Trinni, Double Zee, Age Of Aquarius, and Hershey.
About The Winner- Let Me Explain, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by P Lopez, is a two-year-old filly by People Pleaser and is out of Because. She was bred as a yearling in New York by Mb Stables, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in eight starts, all of the wins being consecutive, her fifth stake win and third graded win. Her career earnings are already $1,512,780.
