The Sword Dancer – Grade I [BC]
1 1/2 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $750.000 Open 3-Year-Olds And Up.
1st Life Is Beautiful Riggins Racing Bridgmohan S X
What a difference 200 yards make as this five-year-old who has had a liberal sprinkling of the five-year-old fairy dust powered home over the top of the horse that beat him in the United Nations. This was a huge win for this improved horse who was being claimed for $20.000 this time last year showing once again how much turning five can be key for these late maturing types. The trainer is in irresistible form at the moment and this horse rode the crest of that wave with a very impressive win that will make him a big chance in the BC Turf when it rolls around in November.
2nd King Que Niagra D J C Racing Stables Velazquez J R
The champion made the running as he did in his last win in the United Nations but could not hold the winner’s finish today. He will defend his crown in November and won the BC in a quicker time last year, so I wouldn’t be writing him off that huge task just yet.
3rd King Z Mb Stables Buick W T
Went back as he did when winning the Read last time but never looked like reaching the first two. It seems the trainer may still be working through his running style as he has gone from an on-pace type to a closer and when they find the key instruction, I think he may be capable of a big effort in the BC.
4th Dark Arts TwinTowersRacing Geroux F
Ran another strong race and although he never looked like being better than fourth you can’t fault his effort. He has only won two races in his career but has been aimed very high over a good career which has seen him second no less than ten times.
