A maiden no more…  Light Up The Pie was sent off as the $1.10 favorite, despite never seeing the winner’s circle, and got the job done in the Shady Well Stakes at WO.  She covered the five and a half furlongs in 1:03.61, second quickest time ever for this ON bred freshman filly test.  It was chalk on the tote, as second bet Il Ponte was second and Gostly Graveyard was third.

The field of six got away from the gate in good order with Xmas On The Moon away quickest from the far outside Light Up The Pie next to that one and Il Ponte just inside of that one.  A gap of two back to Mrs Champsville on the rail and Gostly Graveyard next to that one.

Now entering the far turn with three furlongs left to run, Xmas On The Moon in front by three-quarters of a length.  Light Up The Pie keeping the pressure on that one, then a gap of three back to Il Ponte.  Four more back to Gostly Graveyard and Mrs Champsville was now at the rear.

Around the turn and to the top of the lane, they moved past the three-sixteenth’s pole and Light Up The Pie kicked clear by a two lengths.  Xmas On The Moon was shortening stride, three more to Il Ponte who could do no better, three more to Gostly Graveyard and Mrs Champsville could still see them all.

Inside the final sixteenth and to the finish, this was all about Light Up The Pie as she was now in front by four lengths.  Il Ponte digging in, Xmas On The Moon backing up as the other two tried to press.  But this afternoon was all on Light Up The Pie as he went under the wire, winning easily by four lengths.  Il Ponte held on for second, and Gostly Graveyard passed tiring rivals to be third.  Xmas On The Moon was fourth with Mrs Champsville closing this one out.

Light Up The Pie is a 2yo bay filly by City Of Angels – Pie Eating Wiganer, by Paymaster, and she was bred in ON by Pan Farms.  This was her first win from three starts and she now has earnings of $100.800.
