Another afternoon… another Grade I in the books for Mb Stables.  Sent off at nearly 10/1 odds, Little Jen sat chilly early, worked her way forward to the lane and went by in the lane to take The Beldame (GI) by a length in a final time of 1:48.76.  Living Dead Girl was the slight post time favorite, had the lead turning for home, but couldn’t hold off the winner, settling for second.

The field of four got away in good order with Years Go Bye rushing out to the early lead.  Living Dead Girl giving chase to that one, Years Go Bye from the rail and Little Jen was the early trailer.

Midway down the backside and six-and-a-half furlongs to run, Years Go Bye continued to show the way by a length.  Zero Hour on her inside, Living Dead Girl another length back and three wide with Little Jen under a hold, saving ground and three lengths from the front end.

Now moving around the far turn and past the seven-sixteenth’s marker, Zero Hour up the rail to stick a neck in front of Years Go Bye.  Two lengths back to Living Dead Girl, four wide, and Little Jen now a close up fourth, and still saving ground.

To the top of the lane and past the three-sixteenth’s pole, four across the track – Years Go Bye a neck in front, Living Dead Girl four wide and moving, Zero Hour on the rail and Little Jen in the two path and finding room to run – it was anyone’s race to win from here.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, with a furious kick, Little Jen up to take the lead by a length, Living Dead Girl didn’t even see her go by, but was trying to come back, the others were caught in the wake, and as they went under the wire, Little Jen with a big move had secured the win and was a length clear.  Living Dead Girl in second, a length back to Years Go Bye in third and Zero Hour closed this one out.

Little Jen is a 4yo bay filly by Jazz Milieu – Tao Spirit, by HRP-Crafty Friend, and she was bred by Barcelona Farms in Cal.  Acquired via private purchase for $75.000, she has proven to be one heck of a buy – now showing six wins from twenty two starts and earnings of $1,301.400 after an early career that was spent in inexpensive claiming races – she’s no claimer now!
