3 BEL The Nerud (GII) [BC]
$300.000 4yo&Up 7f Dirt 123lbs
Big purses in the sprint category bring out the best of the best, and boy oh boy did we get a find group for the 2020 Nerud (GII) [BC] to be run at seven furlongs on the main track, here in Elmont, NY. I’m luck to cover a few of my favorite sprinters here today, so my picks may have an extra layer of my view in them. I took Peculiar Sensation as my top choice today, and I just think this one is sitting on a big race and a win. He looked great taking the CD (GI) and just missed last out over this track in the True North (GII). I think he turns the tables today and adds to his impressive resume’. No reason to get crazy here and I’ll put Con Artist in the second spot… he ran bad in the CD (GI) then got back at it last out as he took the True North (GII) so some more home cooking may put him right where he wants to be.
The gate will be full, it’s a loaded group that really doesn’t have a bad horses in it and we even have a filly jumping into the deep end to take on the boys… so there’s something for everyone. Enjoy!!
Here’s The Field –

Broken Tap Arindel Gaffalione T 123
He’s still looking for his first win of the 2020 season but has been second a couple of times including last out in the Met Hcp (GI) over this track. He has nine wins from twenty-six starts so you know he can run a little bit, and should be part of this one as well. |

Salili Team 7 Illusions Lezcano J 123
Kicked off 2020 with a win at SA in the Palos Verdes (GII) but a lot has changed since then. He sold for a mere $1,500.000 and has struggled a bit for the new connections. He was fourth in the CD (GI) and then DH for fourth in the Jaipur (GI) over this track in his most recent. He’s going to need his best today, but his best is pretty good. |

Apples To Oranges Mb Stables Court J K 123
Love watching this one run, but when I pick him he runs bad and when I don’t he wins… so it’s a love hate relationship. I’ll give the big stable a break today and will pick something else, ensuring that he keeps that sharp form that landed him in the winner’s circle last out taking the Triple Bend (GII) at SA. |

Out On A Limb Estero Farms Saez L 123
Nice win last out when he went north of the border to take the Cartier (GIII) in quick time. That was his first win of the year and he had one win last season, and was also sixth in this race last year. He’s going to need his best to do better than that with this group. |

|
Con Artist Smokey Stover Velazquez J R 123
Last season’s BC Sprint (GI) winner got back to the winning ways last out when he took the True North (GII) over this surface. He loves some speed to run at and closes fast, and this should set him up to run his kind of race as there is a ton of speed here today. |

|
Reach For A Latte Fractious Desormeaux K J 123
Was third only a half-length back in the fore-mentioned True North (GII) here at big sandy, and was right in the middle of that one. I would expect another big run from him, and he seems to be loving the change from a mile+ to the sprints… this could be a good spot for him. |

|
Harleys Hope TwinTowersRacing Tunon M 123
Took the Fleet (GIII) at OP before running fifth in that True North (GII) race. He was closing a bit in that one, which may indicate that the extra sixteenth will be to his liking. Still, this is a tough group and he’s going to need his best to be a late factor here. |

|
Peculiar Sensation Mb Stables Davis D 123
Passed late in the True North after having the lead turning for home. He was game and only a quarter length back in the end of that one, and won the CD (GI) prior tot hat races. He’s a seasoned sprinter and certainly knows how to get his picture taken. You have to consider him a big threat today. |

|
Kiss The Snake Nakamura Stables Gryder A T 123
Another that qualifies as “one of my favs” as this 6yo has been a solid runner for a long long time. He was fourth in the BC Sprint (GI) and got back to winning form taking a big Alw purse at CD in his most recent start. He’s been game in a series of graded races prior to that, so he comes with the gun loaded. |

|
Iron Cross Fractious Beschizza A 123
Sold back in Nov for $125.000 and hasn’t won since, but he had been on the board in a couple of big races including the Cigar (GI) and the Cartier (GI) so there’s no doubt he has the class and the ability. Still, with only two wins from twenty-two starts, I think the connections would take any check in this one, especially from this post position. |

|
Di Bug John Henry Centeno D E 123
Another that is still looking for his first win of the 2020 season but he was second in the BC Sprint (GI) last year, and has been close in all of his starts since, never getting beat more than a length. Can he find a bit more and pull an upset here today? |
12/1 | |||
|
Out And Bad Night Rider Stables Bravo J 118
Filly goes for the gusto here taking on a find group of sprinting males, and she catches the outside post position as a kicker. Her only win this year came back in Feb., but she has been on the board in a trio of big purse races, so I guess the barn said, let’s go for it. |

|
ALSO ELIGIBLE Bodivo Our Athletes No Rider 123 He will need some help to draw into the field and after tiring to be sixth in the Cartier (GIII), I’m not sure he wants any parts of this group. |

Einstein Winning Link Stables No Rider 123
Another that would need some help drawing into this one, and despite no wins this season, he looked solid when fourth beaten a long neck in the Triple Bend (GII) at SA. Still, he would be an outside in this one. |
