Night Rider Stables is hoping that his limited three starts with four year old Calissona this season will be just the ticket that this chestnut filly needs to put away her six sophomore competitors come race day on Saturday here at Gulfstream.
- CC Tiara – Purse $ 125.000
- Gulfstream Park – For Fillies & Mares Three Years old and up
- One Mile and one sixteenth- Turf Course
- December 7th, 2019
While the boys are attacking this same distance one race sooner in the CC Emerald affair, the ladies will all be looking to add a nice Tiara to their heads today with a victory in this event.
Weights: Three Year Olds – 120 pounds Older 123 pounds
Changes: None
1 Calissona ( Night Rider Stables ) – has won back to back claiming affairs at both MTH and AQU while racing at today’s distance on the grass. Would definitely be nice if her trainer can find the threepeat here, and breaking from the rail should help. Only negative is this has been the year of the sophomore, so it could be tough based on her age.
2 Hong Kong Panther ( Spankys Barn ) – A three time winner in his past six starts, all those coming at the mile distance. Will add the additional sixteenth of a mile, and in just one attempt two starts ago as the post time favorite she would place third. Has four wins in eight career starts and has yet to finish outside the top three in her career. Factor.
3 Made The Choice High ( T Boy Racing ) – Her last victory came in mid June when she broke her maiden over the turf going twelve panels over a yielding Lone Star track. Her three most recent efforts have come on the main track surface and she finished on the fringes in those events, so she scurries back to the grass in hopes of finding success. The shorter distance should also be a welcomed change.
4 Let Go ( Patterson Stables )- Its been awhile since I have had the opportunity of covering this trainer in a stakes affair. The bay filly has only one win in seven starts this season, and while she was the post time favorite in her most recent Carotene Stakes try where she placed three shy finishing six of six, she missed by a head two starts ago at today’s distance at WO as well. Move south may warm her up slightly to bringing things home.
5 Summer Beauty ( Spankys Barn )- Second runner for this trainer, was having some success three and two starts ago with a show and runner-up placing, but missed the mark last time out in a minor restricted Clm25 event that should have been a top three finish. Tried two Grade III events earlier this season, and both those affairs met with disaster. Hopefully trainer has here up on her toes today.
6 Upper Darby ( Chili King Stables ) – Up until two starts ago when she competed in the Gr. II Yellow Ribbon Handicap, this chestnut filly was finishing in the top three on a regular bases. Has been away since the end of September, and her trainer has gone to work on trying to get her back to focusing on the top. Recent turf works have been favorable but I am reserved with the recent dirt work prior to this affair. Questionable.
7 Di Leigh ( Mb Stables )- While this trainer may fall short of 1000 wins this season, his purchase of this filly in August didn’t pan out as expected in his first try back in late September. Was put to work to find how to get her to the top, and here two most recent five furlong works on the grass are quite impressive indeed. While looking at this field she may not get the speed she would prefer to run at late, so she may very well have to take charge early on to take the victory.
