Lonely Is The Night would make her stake debut in the Monomoy Girl on Saturday in what was her sixth career start. Prior to this race, she won an allowance at LS, then laid down a strong mile work here three weeks ago to make her an appealing horse in this five-horse field. We would make her our pick, and she would not disappoint. Lonely Is The Night is trained by Luz International and was ridden by T Gaffalione. For each, it is their first win in this race. Congratulations go out to them! The winning race time was 1:41.68, the quickest of the three editions of this race thus far. Here’s a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :23.48)- Jamaican Coffee, the post-time favorite from Night Rider Stables, goes out to the lead and pulls ahead by a length. Beautiful Eileen is next for TwinTowersRacing, but running to her inside, is the race’s eventual winner, Luz International’s Lonely Is The Night. Twerk Out (Witeout Stables) is fourth while on the rail, and within a length. Sled (Sheffler Stables) will be the early trailer.
(½ Mile- :47.30)- Around the opening turn, and midway through the backstretch, there is very little that changes in how the horses run. Jamaican Coffee continues to lead the race and has a length and a half lead over Beautiful Eileen and Lonely Is The Night, who are still side by side for second. The main change in the second quarter mile is the early tiring of Twerk Out, who loses ground. Sled has fallen a little further back, too.
(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- This small field has become even smaller in that it has turned out to be a three-horse race. Jamaican Coffee is doing her part, running well on the front end and will try to hold on in the stretch. Lonely Is The Night has taken over the second spot and is positioned well on the rail to make her bid for the win. Beautiful Eileen is still very much in the picture while running third. Sled is a distant four lengths behind them, but that’s still better than Twerk Out.
(Finish- 1:41.68)- In the final furlong, the race will come down to Jamaican Coffee and Lonely Is The Night. The latter had been gradually reeling her in, and when they drew even, there seemed to be more than enough time for her to grab the win. And she would not disappoint, going on to win by a quarter length while Jamaican Coffee settles for second. Beautiful Eileen is third, but lost ground a bit to those top two. Sled was a distant fourth. Reportedly, Twerk Out finished at some point.
About The Winner- Lonely Is The Night, trained by Luz International and ridden to victory by T Gaffalione, is a three-year-old filly by Z Grayte One and is out of Give Her A Shot. She was bred in Ontario as a second quarter two-year-old by Luz International, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her third in six starts, and first stake win. Her career earnings are now $146.640.
