KY Jockey Club
$200.000 Grade 2 for 2YOs
1 1/16M – Dirt at CD
With KYD points on the line, these two-year-olds will be showing their stuff at CD. Alydar’s Stanford is riding a two-race winning streak, but is yet to compete at this level. Greek Consul has but two starts under his belt, but his victory in MSW company at BEL for relative newcomer Oquinn Farm was impressive. Then there’s Nineties Batler, a $20.000 claimer for John Henry who is coming here off two big performances on the turf and an impressive mile work at AQU earlier this month. Who will shine when it counts?
Here’s the field:
1 Final Delivery
Owner/Breeder: Mb Stables
Last win came in the $125.000 Victoria Stakes in July. Tried graded company but was unable to hit the board. Could be in the mix and a win here wouldn’t be a surprise.
2 Foolish Panther
Owner: Tiratzo
Breeder: Running Farms
Won the $100.000 Aspirant Stakes at FL in NY-bred company two starts back, but could not handle the Grade 1 Champaign last out, whether it was the distance, the class or the off-going remains to be seen.
3 Stanford
Owner/Breeder: Alydar Stables
Broke his maiden in MSW company at MTH and followed that with an allowance win at SA. Looks ready to step up in class here.
4 Condottieri Secret
Owner: Waldo
Breeder: Hawaiian Shirt Guy
Auctioned for $100.000 after a second place finish in the state-bred $200.000 Simcoe Stakes. Could not handle the distance or the jump in class last out in the FrontRunner Stakes (G1) where he finished twelfth and last. Looking to come back here.
5 Renal Pleasure
Owner/Breeder: D J C Racing Stables
Just a maiden win for this colt. Will need to step it up to compete here.
7 Red Panther
Owner: Heavens Own
Breeder: Allinthegate
This two-year-old gelding has changed hands twice in his short career. Has won a maiden and an allowance, but has only hit the board once in stakes company with a second in the $100.000 Nevin Stakes for CA-breds. Last out he won a mile allowance coming off the pace. Could be in the mix.
8 Banshee Star
Owner/Breeder: Grimley
Broke his maiden last out in MSW company at BEL in his second try after being gelded in July. Big step up here.
9 Greek Consul
Owner/Breeder: Oquinn Farm
Broke his maiden impressively at BEL in MSW company last out, pulling away by five lengths on off-going. Experience is a question mark as he will be going against much more seasoned competitors here.
10 Nineties Batler
Owner: John Henry
Breeder: Waldo
Claimed for $20.000 in September. Since then, he has a third place finish in the Pilgrim (G3) and a win in the $100.000 Awad on turf. Looks like the real deal, but can he transfer those performances to dirt?
