10 SA Unusual Heat Turf Classic

I’ll be spending the day in SoCal and we catch a field of seven set to go the classic mile and an eighth distance on the SA turf as we look at the field for the Unusual Heat Turf Classic, for the Cal-bred males. If we base this on class alone, Beach Xaar looks tough to move past. He’s been facing graded horses for quite a while, but has been off the board in his last three starts. His best makes him tough, but he needs to get back on form. Rocky Mountain High closed well to be fourth vs graded horses then won back at DMR, so he’s another that certainly deserves a mention. It looks like a wide open event, so let’s see how this one plays out.

Won two of his first three races last season then went on a streak of seven without a win. He was close in a number of graded races and that certainly makes him stand out in this group. His best would make him the one to get past today.

Another with a pair of ’21 wins, both at the ALW level and he had a runner-up and a third in that group of ten starts. He failed last out vs stakes company at FG, and that was sprinting on the lawn… can he do better at a distance?

He’s really never run a bad race, winning half of his six ’21 starts with a second and a third… his only off the board run was a fourthi nthe Snow Chief here, vs. similar and at the same distance. He loves the grass and must be given a look.

Comes from my barn, so strike two… both of his ’21 wins came with front running efforts, so he’s an all or nothing type and looking at the others here, I’m guessing nothing is a pretty good wager.

Steady sort that knows how to bring home a check. Closed well to be fourth vs graded horses sprinting 6f, then won a high end OptAlw race at DMR, so he comes into this on a nice streat of solid races.

A single win from only four starts last year, and he won his first start of the season, so I’m sure they’d love to see a repeat of that here. He’s been off of the board in his last three starts, so maybe the freshening is just what he wants.

He shows three wins from eight starts last season, but did the damage on the main track. They switch him back to the sod today, but he has a pair of wins from six turf starts, so he knows how to get it done on the green stuff.
