Lynbrook Gets Snappy

The Lynbrook- ($125.000 Purse)
BEL- For Two Year Old Fillies Foaled in NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
July 17, 2016

A lot of trifecta tickets were cashed in thus year’s running of the Lynbrook.  The race was won by Snappy Return, who looks like one from Mb Stables that we will be talking about quite a bit, given that it seems like she is going to want to keep running longer and longer as the year goes on.  The other story, well, as the three way dead heat for third that was very nearly a four-way dead heat for second.  Only in our virtual world!   Snappy Return is now two-for-two in her career, having won her debut impressively and stepping up to win this race.  The last two, and only two, other winners of the Lynbrook went to SAR in August to the Seeking The Ante and also won that race.   Perhaps we will see her there as well.   Trainer Mb Stables has now also won two of the three editions of this stake, having also won in 2014.   J R Velazquez has also won two of three, but won his other edition last year with Barcelona Farms.  The race went in a time of 1:09.54, making in the quickest race in the stake’s young history. Congratulations!  Here’s a deeper look.

1st- 8- Snappy Return (3/1)- Our eventual race winner from Mb Stables, who also served as the post time favorite was good out of the gate, though J R Velazquez would wisely opt to tuck her in behind the stalkers, about a length and a half from the lead. Patiently held her ground while in the turn, and as they approached the stretch, J R Velazquez swung her out for a four wide move.  The stretch run would not be easy, because Titanium Missile and Finish The Fight still had plenty of horsepower in their stride as well, and Que Seras Creeps was not packing it in.  With a furlong to go, she still had a length to make up, but she would do that with an explosive leg kick in the final half furlong.   That was simply a gear the rest of the field did not have, and she would get up in time for the win! Snappy Return is a two year old filly by Zero Return (by Chai Latte) and out of Gold Snap (goes back to Wild Chippy).  She was bred in New York by Mb Stables, and they are just getting started together! Congratulations to the connections!

2nd- 3- Titanium Missile (3/1)- The Yahudi Stables filly started well and stalked Que Seras Creeps in a three wide position with Finish The Fight and Titanium Missile around the turn.  J J Castellano did well to keep her in a good spot around the turn, and at the top of the stretch she turned it on and did all she could.  Matched strides all the way to the wire with Finish The Fight but did just enough to keep it from being a 4-way dead heat.

3rd- 1 (dh)- Finish The Fight (3/1)- Got off to a good start along the rail for Sccj Stables and was able to hold the inside position of three wide as they moved into the turn.  Moved to the outside of Que Seras Creeps at the top of the stretch, thanks in part to Crown Of Jewels not being able to hang with them.  Ran very well in the stretch, but may have died off just enough in the final stages, costing her second, or third outright.

3rd- 4 (dh)- Toe Out (6/1)- The Team 7 Illusions entry was near the back of the field in the early moments, running four lengths from the leaders into the turn.  She started to look pretty good near the exit of the turn, and Gutierrez patiently waited for an inside lane to open up instead of swinging way outside.   Toe Out was at her best in the dying moments, and even though the trainer wants more, she showed considerable stretch desire to get up there and get a piece of third place at the very end.  Trainer should be very happy with that.

3rd- 6 (dh)- Que Seras Creeps (7/1)- Quickest of them all out of the gate for D J C Racing Stables, and she would pull ahead by a length moving into the turn, setting the opening quarter in :22.70.  Led the field around the turn while holding her length advantage, and into the stretch still seemed to be in good shape, running five furlongs in a quick :57.32.    Put in a valiant fight to hold off her challengers and gets a portion of a third place check to show for it.

6th- 2- Crown Of Jewels (5/2)- Started well for M.b.o. Racing Stable and settled into a stalking position between Finish The Fight and Titanium Missile.  On exit of the turn, the two she had been running with began to pull away from her, and she was not able to keep up.

7th- 5- Rythym And Blues (26/1)- Started at the back of the pack for Winningstar.  Unfortunately for the trainer, we never saw much out of her today as she struggled to keep pace with the field.
