Six CA-bred 3yos will contest the 19th Running of the 7-furlong $175.000 Real Good Deal Stakes at DMR on Friday.  Trainer Australia Wide has won this event on three occasions (2004, 2008, 2016) while jockeys D.R. Flores and V. Espinoza have each piloted three victors of this DMR staple.  Here’s the field for the 2021 edition of the $175.000 Real Good Deal Stakes for CA-bred 3yos:

1  Little Brown Jug (Hawaiian Shirt Guy/K. Frey 122): Sophomore showed early promise when he took his debut, but has only two wins in nine starts since.  Is coming here off a CA-bred ALW score at PLN, but these types have always been a tad too tough for him.  Looking elsewhere.

2 Quality Art (Mb Stables/A. Cedillo 122): Less-experienced of the Mb Stables 1-2 punch with stablemate Gypsy King.  This will be only the 5th start of his career, so there’s an upside angle here.  Has two wins from four starts and gets the services of A. Cedillo, but this is a big step in his progression and may be one to watch coming out of this.

3  Savannah Ruler (Night Rider Stables/F. Prat 122): Another that comes here for his 5th career start; didn’t run bad in his stakes debut in the $100.000 Audobon at CD when 3rd.  That was a 9-furlong grass race, so drops back to one-turn here, but his dirt form is a bit of a mystery at this point.  Tough to see in this, but could be another that is steadily getting better for down the road.

4  Lets Celebrate (Riggins Racing/T. McCarthy 122): Took the well-traveled GRP MSW to $75.000 Carry Back Stakes path to get here.  Definitely showed he had some talent when just missing for a length at GP.  Could see him making an impact here and a well-timed ride could land him the top prize.  Contender.

5  Heavy Refund (Chili King Stables/D. Van Dyke 122): $35.000 claim out of a July 15 win at SAR wheels back here looking to turn a profit for the new barn.  That was his 2nd win in a row and he’s been in the exacta in all but one of his five lifetime starts.  Deep water here and a board placing may be his ceiling.

6  Gypsy King (Mb Stables/Ru. Gonzalez 124): Lone stakes-winner in the field has to deal with the two pound weight penalty from the outside draw.  That $75.000 Roar win was the 2nd stake win of his career as he took the Nyquist on the BC undercard last year.  Looks to hold all of the cards in here, but this is one of the few races that has been contested this many times without a winner from this barn.  That history probably won’t stop him from being a deserved favorite in here.

Final Analysis: 4-6-1-5 Going upside in this one and taking Lets Celebrate to beat the duo from the big barn.  Good luck to all of the participants in this edition of the $175.000 Real Good Deal Stakes from DMR.
