Maggie Greene Looks to Add to Her Legacy

The Glens Falls – Grade II
SAR Race #8 1 1/2m InTurf Graded Stake
Purse $250.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

This isn’t the best grade two ever run but it does give a chance to two stars of the game to add to their impressive records in the twilight of their careers, will it be one of the old champs or a new girl on the block, lets evaluate their chances:

1 Robber Baroness Aarons Hosses – Scratch –

2 Loihi Martyparty Velazquez J R

She may be a rising star rather than an established one but this filly is a little under rated i feel and gets a great draw with nothing inside her so she can run her race out without impedance. She has always shown ability but her trainer has been careful to let her find her feet at this level and she finds herself a dual grade three winner this year. I like the fact that she can go on a wet or dry track and she showed an impressive turn of foot last time to take the RGD with Number Nine behind her. She is happy at this trip and must be one of the best chances in this race.

3 Inquisition Arindel Ferrer J C

Another four year old up and comer she has been wonderfully consistent in a busy career. She is another that doesn’t mind rain or shine and was very tough in the Dance Smartly last time on a wet track. I feel she has a bit to find with Loihi on their runs in the Sheepshead Bay and of course the winner of that race Maggie Greene is also in this race making it a tough ask to turn over both of them. A top three finish looks assured though so remember her in your multiple bets.

4 Build Battle Mb Stables Saez L

Another four year old and another that seems to be cut from a similar cloth to the two inside her with the main difference being she really doesn’t like a wet track much. She won the Bewitch over this trip beating Number Nine that day so clearly must go in the hopper of chances but i do feel she is the sort that needs things to go her way and this is a competitive field to see that happening. She has won six though and over $500 and with the champion trainer chomping at the bit to find some winners she must be considered.

5 Maya Caribe First Flight Stable Davis D

She was a great claim by the owner who found her in an optional claimer with a tag and then took her to the Santa Barbara Stakes for some quick profit. She had Build Battle behind that day so in the spider web of form we can find her a winning chance if she can beat that filly a length again today. They went a bit quick for her in the NY last time where she plodded on for sixth and that probably exposed her main Achilles heel in that she isn’t the quickest of beasts. This is a marathon trip though and it will be stamina that wins the day and she has plenty.

6 Number Nine Smokey Stover Gutierrez Mario

The first of the two older mares who are stand outs on achievements. Last seasons BC Fillies and Mares winner she looked set up for another huge year when c close second in the Pegasus Fillies and Mares Turf on seasonal debut but really hasn’t kicked on from that. I am not saying she hasn’t done well to cash a cheque in every start this year but seconds and thirds by her standards seem to mark a down turn in form. Her works are still sharp so she may be more of an Autumn type but i will need to see a big effort from her today to be convinced she can defend her crown in November.

7 Maggie Greene The Sidley Stud Franco M

One of the games great she just keeps going. The BC Fillies and Mares winner in 2020 she was trucking along to the defense of her title last year but ca a bit unstuck from a wide draw on the day and was a very ordinary tenth behind Number Nine. A couple of below par starts and we started wondering about her future but she has bounced back this year with two graded wins and looks as good as ever. She must start favorite to win this but she has come unstuck a few times with wide draws so there is a word of caution, if he runs her best though she wins.

SUMMARY

Maggie Greene is a grand mare who retains her zest for racing and looks to add another pile of cash into her impressive haul of over 4K in purse money. She should do it but stuck n a wide gate isn’t her favorite place to be and i do think this is the sort of field where any of them could win and a good trip will be essential. Loihi may be her main danger along with Inquisition and i would be boxing those three up in the Trifecta.
