Maggie Greene Wins The Noble Damsel Again

The Noble Damsel (Grade 3)- $150.000 Purse
AQU- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile on the Inner Turf
October 22, 2022

She’s done it again! Maggie Greene stepped up on Saturday and won the Grade 3 Noble Damsel for the second consecutive year in what was the best performance for this well accomplished veteran mare since May. The win should get her into the BC Fillies and Mares Turf, and I only say “should” because trainer The Sidley Stud will have to have at least a slight passing thought of the fact that it would be three races for her in five weeks. However, that did not keep her out in 2021, as she ran in both the Waya and Noble Damsel then as well. That said, she did run a distant tenth in the BC last year. The two wins for Maggie Greene represent each of The Sidley Stud’s wins in this race. Mario Gutierrez is a first time winning jockey. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:33.34, not quite as fast as she was last year (though it was a different track), but all that was needed. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :23.37)- Maggie Greene shoots out of the gate for The Sidley Stud, and the race’s eventual winner clears the rest of the field by a length and a half. She has three right behind her, and the second place horse is Marijane Racing Stab’s Rebel Girl, who runs three wide. To her inside, we have Becoming for Maxmillion Farm and Saddle Up for Our Athletes, the latter of which is on the rail. Next up come Hunt For Love (D J C Racing Stables) and Notorious Jenn (Asgar) who run right behind the three stalkers. Nearby to them is Twisted Express (Mb Stables). It’s almost three more lengths to Command All (TwinTowersRacing), and Be Genuine (Hunterman Stable) is an additional length back.

(½ Mile- :46.43)- Heading down the backstretch, Maggie Greene continues to lead and puts a little more space between her and the three stalkers as she now holds a two length advantage. None of the three horses running right behind her are looking like more of a threat than the other two are for now as Saddle Up, Rebel Girl, and Becoming maintain their pace. The same can be said for Hunt For Love, Notorious Jenn, and Twisted Express behind them. Command All and Be Genuine will look to employ a closing strategy, it appears.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- It’s still Maggie Greene out front, and no one has made a bid to even pose a challenge to her as of yet. Has last year’s winner been allowed to get away from the field? Right now, The Sidley Stud had to like how things were looking. Saddle Up, Becoming, and Rebel Girl were still two lengths back, and still none of them were making a bid for the lead. In fact, Twisted Express was looking to get by all of them, as she is really the only other horse right now looking to do something as she goes four wide. Similar moves were not seen yet out of Notorious Jenn and Hunt For Love. And if Command All and Be Genuine were going become closers, they needed to get moving now!

(Finish- 1:33.34)- Maggie Greene has indeed gotten away from the field, and she is able to coast to a rather easy win. It will go down as a length and a half victory, but the late run of Twisted Express on the outside was only going to be for second. Notorious Jenn did a lot of side to side movement before going about six wide in the stretch. She’d end up in a dead heat with Twisted Express for second. Saddle Up is fourth best, with Becoming and Rebel Girl near to her, just like they were all race. Hunt For Love is next, and supposedly Command All and Be Genuine were part of the race as well though their trainers have to be quite let down.

About The Winner- Maggie Greene, trained by The Sidley Stud and ridden to victory by Mario Gutierrez, is a seven year old mare by the late Walking Dead and is out of the late Clear Rainbow. She was bred in Louisiana by Team 7 Illusions as a yearling, and was acquired by The Sidley Stud when she was still for raced for some of the best $6.770 they ever spent. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her 18th in 58 starts, and she is a 16-time graded stake winner. Her career earnings are now $4,358.830.
