Sometimes… sometimes… speed is the answer. Viking Major proved that to be true on the TAM lawn, getting the job done in wire-to-wire fashion and cruising home by two lengths in The TAM Turf Classic. Kray Kray Kray followed the leader all the way around an was second with Gamblin Greek third. The final time was a quick 1:46.45.
The field of six loaded into the gate, the doors sprung open and down the chute to start this one and Viking Major was on the gas from the rail, Warrior Patriot and Warino giving chase, Sezarchai was next, Gamblin Greek next to that one and Kray Kray Kray was away slowest of all.
Under the wire the first time and into the clubhouse turn with five and a half furlongs to run, Viking Major sprinted off to lead by three lengths. Kray Kray Kray on the outside of Warrior Patriot, Gamblin Greek just in behind that pair, Sezarchai along the rail and Warino now trailed, seven lengths from the front end.
Down the backside and now nearing the far turn with three furlongs to run and not much had changed. Viking Major in front by four lengths. Kray Kray Kray on the rail, Gamblin Greek now next to that one as Warrior Patriot lost ground in fourth, Warino four wide and Sezarchai was the back marker, six lengths separated them.
The field made their way around the far turn and hit the top of the lane… this was all about Viking Major as he continued to lead by three lengths. Kray Kray Kray set down for the drive on the inside of Gamblin Greek, three wide, Warrior Patriot between them, Warino widest of all, in behind that trio and Sezarchai still trailed.
Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, Viking Major was just as easy a winner as you could want and he cruised under the wire in front by two. Kray Kray Kray took the place, a quarter length better than Gamblin Greek and it was another half length back to Warrior Patriot in fourth. Warino was fifth ad Sezarchai closed this one out.
Viking Major is a 5yo bay gelded son of Artemus Major – Viking Storm, by Viking Rage and he was bred by Hawthorneshorsefarm in NY. This was his fifth lifetime win, his first of 2020, and he now has $209.740 in earnings.

Viking Major broke alertly, sent from the start, clear while setting the pace throughout, never challenged. Kray Kray Kray was off a step slow, gathered and moved up to sit in behind the pacesetter, late gain while no threat to the winner. Gamblin Greek unhurried early while mid-pack, three wide into the lane, came in mid-stretch, good effort. Warrior Patriot gave an even effort. Warino off slow, outrun. Sezarchai showed little, outrun.
