The Greenwood Cup- GIII
PRX Race 1 1/2M- Dirt
Purse $200.000
Three Year Olds and Up
A group of seven marathon runners will be lining up for the Greenwood Cup at Parx racetrack in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This field is consisted of mainly just grade three and ungraded stakes runners. There is some decent horses in here for sure and it should be a good race. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Higher Limit (18-4-2-5 $192.780), trained by Night Rider Stables
This runner from Night Rider Stables is coming into this race off of a win going a mile and three sixteenths on an off track at Saratoga last out. It was only a four horse hate but he did win by four lengths. It seems like he liked going that far so I think he will like even more added distance in here.
2. Devil Water (24-6-5-3 $540.530), trained by Team 7 Illusions
This horse was just bought for ninety seven dollars and some change just six days ago. He was bought and I’m guessing immediately entered in this spot. Last out he ran third in the two hundred dollar Albuquerque Handicap. He came from way back so maybe he will love this extra distance.
3. Free Bird (7-4-1-0 $171.550), trained by Hambletonian Stable
Here is a lightly raced horse but he is coming into this race off of four wins in a row including the grade three Cougar Handicap over this distance of a mile and a half at Del Mar last start. If he runs the same race he did that day in here that definitely puts him there. He is my top pick of the race.
4. Scotus Ghostus (6-1-0-1 $78.420), trained by Drabfantasy
This very lightly raced horse is coming off of a maiden breaking win over the distance of a mile and an eighth at Saratoga on a slightly off track. I think he will like the added distance and his trainer Drabfantasy can definitely get one ready to go this long. He has a chance I think for sure in here.
5. Hidden Slew Laff (17-7-0-0 $676.560), trained by Gdp Inc
Here is a graded stakes winner in the field and when he is on his game he runs a big race. But the problem with him is you either get it all or you get nothing at all. He’s won seven times in his career but he has never second or third which is odd. If he is right and ready he can win a race like this.
6. Happy Stripes (9-1-3-1 $38.820), trained by Tiratzo
Here is horse who has ran a mile and a half three races in a row. He ran second in a maiden special weight and then won by nine lengths against open thirty dollar claimers as a maiden. He then tried the Cougar Handicap but he didn’t run very good that day. He might run good and he might not.
7. Goat Locker (11-2-1-2 $95.960), trained by Sharis Stables
Here is another horse who is coming off a stakes win at a mile and a half. This horse won the Birdstone at Saratoga last time going this same distance. If he runs like that again he definitely has a chance and we already know he can run this far. He is my second pick in this race because he likes the distance.
Summary
Well this one is going to test stamina and staying power and it’s going to show who can keep grinding away for a mile and a half. Free Bird and Goat Locker are my two top picks because they like to run this far and they’ve both won stakes at this distance. Good luck to everyone in this race.
