In a perfect HRP world, this race would probably be renamed the Bronze Sabre, the three-time winner of this race… but it’s not and we stand ready for a full gate for the 2020 running of the Pattison Canadian International (GI) to be run at the marathon mile and a half distance on Sunday, here outside of Toronto at WO Racecourse.
We have a lot of horses headed to the gate and that could spell traffic issues, so positioning will be very important, in my opinion. As I look at this fine field, I ended up on Technic as my top choice. He certainly ran hard for Maxmillion Farm but they decided to pat with the gray gelding and he sold via Private Purchase for $500.000. The new owner is a sharp conditioner as well so let’s look for another big race like his runner-up effort in the Read Stakes (GII) or that big win in the DMR Derby (GII) last out. He has speed and the ability to go long so that may set him up to be tough.
I’ll go even wider for my second choice and take Annihilator in that spot. He’s been solid as a rock all season and looks to be due for a win after a 4/3/2 finish in his last three starts. His last out runner-up finish in the KY Turf Cup (GIII) going today’s distance on a wet KD track should have him primed for a big run.
There’s a handful of others that look ready to deliver a big race and could certainly upset the apple-cart, but let’s stick with the top two and see if we can nail down a nice bet.
Here’s The Field –
