OBrien Stakes – Grade II [BC]
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $150.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
There were a few things that made this race what it was. A fast early pace well contested insured it would be a closer that won and with three lengths covering all 12 runners at the end it was going to be the closer that got the best trip that would ultimately be victorious. It is usually one of the three year olds and/or one of the top stables that manage to pull that off but it was great to see a four year old and one of our smaller stables take the honors.
1st Marx On The Moon Court Jester Racing Ferrer J C
This one must be such a stable favorite as Court Jester bred this one them self and has had some great success with him in two years of racing. He doesn’t win that often but always runs an honest race and today it took all of his experience to find the right place and the right path to a career best win. The trainer had had two grade three wins before this both achieved by this horse and now it has landed the trainers first grade two success, i would love to have been a fly on the wall in their house as this horse thundered home today.
2nd Declassified Mb Stables Talamo J
This three year old went further back than most from the wide gate and thundered home to run past the blanket of horses fighting for second spot. This was another good sprinting performance by the ex router who is building a strong record without reaching the ‘star’ status of some of the stables horses.
3rd Tudor One Mb Stables Franco M
Like his stable mate came late and hard but was stuck in the ruck of horses fighting and bumping for second spot whilst the winner was home and hosed. I thought this would be the best of the stables entries and maybe on another day it would’ve been.
4th Mojave Rattler John Henry Velazquez J R
The first home of the stables three runners he along with his stablemate Bad Days fought for the lead early on and helped make the pace hot enough for those off the speed to come through. This was another tough effort but the BC Mile winner of last year just can’t seem to catch a break this year.
