Mastery Makes Three-Year-Old Debut in Leonatus Stakes

Leonatus Stakes 1 Mile on Dirt

Purse $125,000 For Three Year Olds.

Mastery from DJC Racing Stables is the winner of just one race, when he broke his maiden back in August at the spa. Since then, he has three straight two turn races where he hit an off track twice and finished off the board both of those times. In his only dry track excursion, the gelding ran a solid second in a stakes race at Aqueduct. Off since early December, expect the gelded son of Muth to come out running as long as the surface remains dry. Top billing will go to Puppet Master from Riggins Racing. A repeat of his effort in the Champagne Stakes probably puts him in the charmed circle. However, the gelding has had two sub-par efforts since and is coming back for more possibly a little quick, he also will offer no value at the windows with a Breeder’s Cup race in his running lines. Guapo from Mb Stables goes two turns for only the second time. Drawn in the middle with gas in the tank, so if left alone he could be dangerous.

Of the rest:

Vortex from Twin Towers Racing has done little wrong since a lunch money purchase back in July. Any on the board placement here would add to his nice story.

Political Asylum from Nakamura Stables could be dangerous and overlooked at the windows. Only two starts on a fast surface provided two solid efforts. Yes, far below this assignment class wise, but the number earned in his last fits big here. Add him to all of your exotic wagers.

Resurgent also from DJC Racing Stables draws the rail, has a bullet work over the track and looks like a send job to me. Would be more, more than a touch surprised if he holds sway.

Appealing Brandy from The Sidley Stud has slightly conflicting info on his resume but certainly is headed in the right direction and conformation checks out ok. If they go nuts early, he could pick up his fair share.

Grim from South Shore Stables has done nothing wrong in two lifetime starts but gets a tough post for his first venture around two turns. Should be a big price if you believe.
