Big Daddy ($125.000 Purse)
TP- For Four Year Olds and Upward
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
March 8, 2025
Away from the bright lights of the more well-known races on Saturday, the Big Daddy took place at TP for just the second time. Surprisingly, Max Party went off as the second longest shot on the board at 14/1, though he was among our picks. As he likes to do, the gelding was out on the lead early, and he would not concede the top spot with the wire-to-wire victory. Max Party is trained by La Canada Racehorses, and had A Cedillo aboard for the win, each capturing their first Big Daddy title. Congratulations to them! The winning race time of 1:08.73 was faster than last year’s race, which did race in the mud. Let’s take a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :22.14)- After a brief challenge by Beaten Path, our eventual winner from La Canada Racehorses, Max Party, surges to the front and gets the field clear by a length after a quarter mile. TwinTowersRacing’s Beaten Path will settle for the second spot towards the outside. He’s about a full length ahead of Tropical Monsoon and Maxing Mayan, respectively for Night Rider Stables and Lazy Eye, and those two have Grand Entrance (Mb Stables) looking to find room behind them. Judge (Nakamura Stables) is sixth on the outside, followed closely by Kick N Scream (Wood Racing Stable) and Blamethespeedparty (Luz International). At the back, Italian Captain (Avenue Z) can see them all.
(½ Mile- :45.02, Top of Stretch, 1.6F To Go)- Max Party could not look any more comfortable than he did here as he gracefully handled the turn while extending his lead a bit moving into the stretch. Beaten Path could not handle it as he continued to run in the fourth lane, and on the rail Maxing Mayan did not look like a party was in his reach. Everyone was not defeated, however, as Tropical Monsoon, yes, that horse that bettors seemed to forget was an option when they looked at their programs, had the couple people that wagered on him getting excited, and also, we saw Grand Entrance showing a lot more interest. Both Kick N Scream and Blamethespeedparty were not looking like a factor, and Judge was guilty of tiring in the turn. At the back, not sure what Italian Captain’s plan was but there were no signs of a late run coming from him.
(Finish- 1:08.73)- With a length and a half lead entering the stretch, Max Party did not need to pour it on anymore. All he needed to do was maintain his stride, and he would do exactly that, making this win look pretty easy. Tropical Monsoon inched a little closer and got within a length to make it a longshot exacta, with Grand Entrance holding off Kick N Scream for show. The tiring Beaten Path is fifth, defeating Maxing Mayan, Judge, Blamethespeedparty, and Italian Captain.
About The Winner- Max Party, trained by La Canada Racehorses and ridden by A Cedillo, is a four-year-old gelding by Zioinist and is out of Party With Dylan. He was bred as a yearling in California by La Canada Racehorses and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 19 starts and his second stake win. His career earnings are now $496.460.
