Maxmillion Is “One Man Show” in Simpson Stakes

9/16/2020

  1  KD     Simpson Stakes (GIII)

                    $500.000   3yo     6 1/2f  Turf        122lbs

One Man Show wasn’t worried about that outside post… get in front and improve position as the Maxmillion Farm trained gelding went wire-to-wire in the mid-week Simpson Stakes (GIII), winning by a length in a final time of 1:14 for the six and a half furlong turf sprint.  City Watch tracked the winner throughout but had to settle for second, a half length better than Eggs And Bacon in third.  Only four lengths covered the field in this hotly contest grass race.

The field entered the starting gate near the jug-handle on the backside and the gates flew open with One Man Show on the early gas from the outside, a wall of chasers with Keanu Storm, City Watch, Eggs And Bacon along the rail, then In Name Only and Stormbringer from the outside.  Gordon Drive and pollinate just in behind that wall, and Shattered Pieces was the early trailer.

Midway on the big sweeping turn and OneMan Show had the lead and crossed over to the rail.  Stormbringer chasing him four wide, City Watch three wide, Keanu Storm between horses and Eggs And Bacon on the rail.  Then two more lengths back to Pollinate on the inside, Gordon Drive next to that one and In Name Only three wide, the two more back to Shatter Pieces, still trailing in this one.

Now into the lane and just two furlongs to run, One Man Show was in front by almost three lengths and turning this into a romp.  Four across the track trying to catch the leader with City Watch, Stormbringer four wide Eggs And Bacon on the rail and Keanu Storm next to him.  A trio in behind that group with Gordon Drive between horses, Pollinate towards the inside and In Name Only widest of all as Shattered Pieces continued to be the back marker.

Now moving past the sixteen pole and deep stretch, One Man Show continued to show the way by a length, City Watch trying to inch up and Eggs And Bacon on the rail, with a cavalry charge behind them… but this was all about One Man Show and we went under the wire in front by a length.  City Watch tried to make a race out of it but was really no threat, taking second over Eggs And Bacon in third.  Pollinate was fourth, Shattered Pieces with some late action to nose out Gordon Drive for fifth, Stormbringer seventh, Keanu Storm eighth and In Name Only closed this one out.

One Man Show is a 3yo bay gelding by Crystal Maze – Big Bad Goof, by Green Slow Garbage, and she was bred in NY by Twin TowersRacing. Acquired by Maxmillion Farm via Private Sale prior to his racing career, this was his fourth win from twelve starts, and he now has earnings of $530.700.
