Mb Aims at a One-Two in Giants Causeway

Giants Causeway – Grade III
KEE Race #4 5 1/2f Turf Graded Stake
Purse $350.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Sweet T Spb Racing Corrales G 125 —

No three-year-olds in this race and a short field so that makes it pretty open. This stakes winning mare had been pretty consistent in ungraded stakes, winning a couple at the end of the year and then picking up with strong placed efforts this year. Her last start was a bit of a disappointment which sets the odd alarm bell ringing but it can happen sometimes, rather randomly here at HRP, so we should forgive her one average effort. On the rest of her CV, she has every chance from the inside gate.

2 Stellar Strength Mb Stables Lopez P 125 —

Another five-year-old, she has had plenty of success in the past winning half of her 18 starts and running some great places at graded level. Unbeaten this year with two stakes wins to boot, she looks like this race could be at her mercy especially with a favorable draw.

3 Lucky Star Maxmillion Farm Hernandez R M 125 —

Third in the KD Ladies Sprint last year she has been a bit inconsistent since. She has not been a specialist sprinter with half her wins coming over longer trips so that could be the reason for her inconsistency and whilst she is fast and will be strong at the end, I think she may struggle to cope with a few of the quicker ones.

4 Forsythia In White Avenue Z Geroux F 125 —

A lightly raced five-year-old her form doesn’t stack up as well as some, but she is an honest sort and will be looking for a minor pay check.

5 Miss Fury Mb Stables Velazquez J R 125 —

The second stable runner, she beat her stable mate and rival in the grade two Buffalo Trace Franklin County last year so is right in this. A reversal in draw may give Stellar Strength the edge today but these two are stand outs and could easily give the trainer a one-two finish. A great record, possibly win or second here.

6 When Doves Cry Big Jd Racing Curtis B 125 —

She has been running over much further and doing pretty well winning the Tropical Paradise Oaks at the end of last year and running pretty well in the Pegasus and the Hillsborough. Of course, this being HRP means she can sprint pretty much as well as she can stay so I am not worried about the drop back to 5.5. A closing type, she will get back and if the leaders go too hard, she could be the one coming over the top.

7 Silent Runner Asgar Centeno D E 125 —

Ran on the turf for the first time in 14 starts and won last time albeit over a longer trip. Surface, trips, both can seem to mean very little with these stakes horses in the right race and this could be the right race. She may benefit from some outside speed push so could make the front and if she does, she will be hard to run down.

SUMMARY

A tight little race but one that may see Mb Stables go one-two. Of the others, When Doves Cry may be the most likely if the pace is fast, but I think they are fighting for third.
