05/25 Whittingham Stakes – Grade II
1 1/4 Mile Turf Stake Purse $200.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st On The Spot Mb Stables Talamo J
Mb Stables took all three stakes races at this meet today an amazing accomplishment that made it feel like BC 2017 all over again. With two lengths first to last this was probably the most fortunate and it was made even more fortunate in the fact the horse did what his trainer says is virtually impossible by making all the running. It was good to see this one back in the stakes winners circle and good to see him finally get a surface and trip he has been crying out for. Can he go on from here? Well this wasnt the strongest grade two ever run but i think a mile on the turf and ridden just behind the speed could see him winning a few more.
2nd Ingrained Our Athletes Bejarano R
The horse just couldnt get past his old stable mate keeping on dourly but just missing by the shortest of margins. This has turned out to be a great buy at only $50 and he should continue to add to the profits as the season progresses.
3rd Call Me Godd Sir Daniel Martin Desormeaux K J
With the normal 6Lbs age allowance this horse would have probably won but try as he might from teh stalk he just couldnt get to the winner. This wasnt a bad effort though and i suspect there will be some older scalps to be taken down the line.
3rd Video Master Aer Stables Gutierrez Mario
The fact that this eight year old was third and only beaten a quarter length really does throw into question the validity of these close finishes. Dont get me wrong he is as tough as old boots and clearly his new trainer saw something when he paid $85 for him. It would be great to see him grow from this great effort and be one of the few pure autogens to still be winning graded stakes.
