King Edward BC Stakes – Grade II
WO Race #8 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $175.000 For Three Year Olds And Upward.
1 Hefner Mb Stables Bejarano R
Last year the three year olds finished first second and third which is a regular occurrence at HRP regardless of how big the difference is in form between the older and younger. With most of the horses at this level working the same times the weight allowance for three’s is often the difference so it may pay to ignore the form and just pick which three year old will win. So what chance this one? Fifth beaten just one length in last years BC Juvenile Turf it would be fair to expect him to improve at three but whilst his works are sharp his form doesnt reflect that. He has been consistent but still only has one win from eleven attempts but its hard to ignore the fact that he is working as well as he is despite that fact. If he was four he would have no chance but at three he comes into this race rightly or wrongly.
2 Scion Of Decima Fractious Gaffalione T
A lightly raced four year old he certainly has shown enough ability to step up to this level but may struggle against the three’s as his works are only equitable to them. Bought for just $30.000 after a maiden and allowance win he demonstrates perfectly the fact that he is working the same as the three’s and the same as a grade one winner but only looks fair at allowance level. So all we have to guide us is form and the fact that he just scraped home in a little LAD allowance last time suggests he has a bit to find at this level.
3 Decibel Threshold
With more prize money than all the other runners put together he is certainly the class horse in the race but faces weight for age which will make his task hard. On his day he can be very good and has a perfect draw to get one over on the youngsters if things go his way.
4 Na Dene Team 7 Illusions Bahen S R
This three year old has won three from five and was hugely impressive in the wet last time when winning a big purse allowance by seven lengths. He wouldnt be a contender without the weight allowance but that is enough to put him right in it especially if the rains come.
5 Never Met Me Mb Stables Colon L H
This winner of two ran very well in the Dixie last time when beaten just a neck and may be the best of the two stable entries. His works are just as good as anything elses and he has both the magic of Colon and Mb in his camp. That may be enough to seal the win.
6 Commander Die Hard TwinTowersRacing Pennington F
A tough four year old with works in the 1.09 range and 1.34 range he really should’ve won more than one race. This is HRP however and with all horses very similar with eight placings he may just have been unlucky more than others. Pennington gets the leg up and whilst he carries the penalty for being a year older he is certainly not one to write off.
7 Steel Home Blazin D Hernandez R M
Rounding off the field is another four year old working pretty much the same as everything else. He was a good allowance winner last time and gets the wide draw again today which saw him make all and win last time out. Another soft lead and he clearly has enough ability to make his presence felt.
SUMMARY
On works you would have to say that with the 5Lb weight allowance Never Let Me will win. Add to that the Colon and Mb factor and he looks a great chance. On form Decibel is head and shoulders above these.
Take your pick.
