14   FG   Mike LaRosa LA Derby (GII) [KYD]

$1,000.000      3yo        13/16th Mile  Dirt         122lbs

On one hand, how did an Mb Stables horse pay $40.00 to win?  On the other hand, neither of us had him, so, there’s that.  Gold State hand the Big Barn another TC hopeful as the 3yo gelding, plucked from the Dec Auction for just $8.000, closes from way back to grab the win in Saturday’s Mike LaRosa LA Derby (GII), getting the mile and three sixteenths in 1:54.58 and stamping his ticket to the KYD.

Poor Scoer from the Hippyheart barn looks to be a very good one, running second in his first stakes effort and only his fifth trip to the starting gate, running mid-pack for most of the race, but showing that he has heart and talent, nosing out Street Magician for the place.  The later, from the Angelos Stable, also made a late gain and certainly has shown that he belongs in the conversation for the first Saturday in May.  It was another half-length to the obligatory dead-heat when the Mb Stables trained gelding, Darrow ended on even terms with Night Rider Stables’ Ref You Def, those two splitting the minor money, and I guess the TC points, as well.

Seven lengths covered the field of fourteen and there were no scratches in this one.  The main FG oval was listed as Fast.  Congrats to Gold State and all the connections involved!
