5 The Man o War (GII)
$400.000 4yo&Up 13/8th Mile Turf 123lbs
I think we put too much emphasis on this being a wet track… it was not. Mb Stables’ Killer Instinct used a killer closing kick down the middle of the track to run down Sioux Arrival and hold off Diamond Haggis, taking home the king’s money in Saturday’s Man o War (GII) over the Firm AQU turf. The final running time for the mile and three-eighths was 2:10.82, a new track record for the marathon distance, and the winning margin was a half-length. Allowed to settle well off of the pace, the 6yo entire swung wide thought the final turn and was relentless in the lane, gaining the lead at the sixteenth pole, taking the victory. That was his eleventh win from forty starts, his first win of the ’25 season, and he now has earnings of $4,610.480. I can’t wait for this one to hit the stallion barn… but there’s money to be won at the track. Congrats to the Connections!
Diamond Haggis also closed a late gap, also going by Sioux Arrival, that one having the lead turning for home… Diamond Haggis with a solid late turn of foot, was three quarters of a length in front of that one, as they went under the wire. Another three quarters of a length, Feel The Attraction, a 35/1 long-shot, loomed large at the top of the lane, but could only muster enough late action to gain the minor share. Eight lengths covered the field of nine and there were no scratches.
