The Vagrancy Handicap – Grade III
6 1/2 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.
In my write up for another race I said that I felt Mb Stables had endured a stable cold spell that we all suffer for an inexplicable reason but that that had come to an end. Once again we saw the proof of that in this race. This is how they all ran as only a few lengths covered all the runners.
1st Red velvet Cake, trained by Mb Stables
Beautifully prepared for this race with two wins in small races this four year old daughter of Red Roja has clearly won all her old confidence back as she strolled home today. Close up in a loose stalk she was always going well and ducked the tape by a length in a time slower than she won a Starter Allowance last time. I would like to see her stretch out over a mile but she is clearly a decent sprinter and one feels she can compete at any level at the moment.
2nd Birthday Shot, trained by Ubetracing.com
Ubetracing would’ve been thrilled once again by their recent claim as a storming late finish saw a second straight graded stakes placing. To be fair to the winner she never looked like catching her but she had to come from the trail today and obviously had some traffic so this was a super effort which further underlines the excellent decision her trainer made when claiming her.
3rd Hehehe, trained by Maxmillion Farm
Held up early on this classy six year old tried hard to get to the winner after a wide trip but looked a little one paced in the stretch. This run was game but I am getting the feeling that this grand old warrior is getting to the stage where she takes her place in the harem.
4th Jimmies Fivepeat, trained by Triple T Racing
Broke well and set a fast pace but always looked like getting caught and weakened in the end to finish in the last money paying spot. Like Hehehe she looks like she may be coming to the end of a great career.
5th Effie Josephine, trained by Oak Tree Stables
Never really got into it and looked a little outclassed.
6th Clutch Situation, trained by D J C racing Stables
As Mb Stables comes out of their cold spell I am wondering whether D J C is entering theirs as this horse ran pretty badly. Running slower that her run in the same grade last time she just couldn’t make any impression on these and was a fairly flat last in the end.
SUMMARY
There are no real excuses in this race. The best horse won well, the runner up ran a great closing race and that is the tail of the tape.
