The Pasco Stakes Purse $125.000 For Three Year Olds.
Tampa Bay Downs, Tampa, FL
Mb Stables sent out a three-horse entry for Saturday’s running of the Pasco Stakes and barn backers were all smiles as Need Cash Now dominated late to win going away. Terrible Tudor ran a game second for the barn but could not get close to overtaking his stablemate on the afternoon. Strategic Risk from Family Stables ran very game to hold third after showing good speed the whole way. It looks like we will see more from the top three as the year progresses. Congrats to the winning connections of Need Cash Now, the gelding now has three wins from eight lifetime starts and earning approaching three-quarters of a million dollars.
Of the rest:
Contractor from Nakamura Stables ran really big from his rail slot and will surely improve when he goes two turns again. Put him on your watch list.
Drummer Boy from DJC Racing Stables came out fifth and stayed in the same position all the way around the track in a better than looked effort. “Boy” looked done with a quarter to go but just kept the wheels turning. Should pay dividends soon.
Lack Of Morals from Mb Stables was in for the education today and got some. Look for him to improve with more distance and a slight drop in class.
Gengis from Alabarda Stables showed no speed away from the gate and had an eventful journey down the backside. Not a bad effort considering the company. Expect a better effort on the drop.
Bones Jones from Big Jd Racing simply showed no speed away from the gate and got too far back. His strong jockey asked the question but got the wrong answer today.
Highstrech from Williams9 was unable to show much speed early and then could not close ground late. A little overmatched on the afternoon.
Scooby Snack from Aer Stables took a ton of late money but failed to menace. Of greater concern, the three-year-old gelding was retired from racing soon afterwards. He was not on the vet’s list, and I was unable to speak to any barn representatives. Hard to imagine looking at his form and his current diminutive stature. I can’t even guess as to the reasoning, but then again, John Harbaugh was fired this week too.
