3 BEL The Frizette (GI) [BC]
$400.000 2yoF 1m Dirt 3yo 119lbs
I’m a self-admitted moron when it comes to handicapping these 2yo races… especially the filly side of the street. Well, evidently I’m not the only one lacking when it comes to figuring these out. Sunday’s Frizette (GI), a flat mile main track stakes with BC Day ramifications, showed how many light-bulbs were burned out on the infield tote-board as Mb Stables’ Sensation, dismissed at 30/1 odds, closed down the lane like a freight train to win by a quarter length in a final time of 1:352 over the fast track. Directors Chair, the 5/2 post-time favorite, tracked the pace, throughout, had a brief lead but settled for the runner-up spot, three-quarters of a length in front of 50/1 Lassitude. Say Bye Bye was a head back in fourth.
The field loaded into the gate for this one turn mile stakes and away in good order with Paris Pinnacle party on the early lead, a four-some giving chase that included Directors Chair, Neon Moon from the rail, Lassitude and Incendiary from the outside. Then the trio of Sensation between horses, Say Bye Bye on the outside and Folding Wings on the inside, then a gap to the trailing quartet of Surrey Demanding Commander, Curlina and Ship House.
Moving down the backside and nearing the far turn with four and a half furlongs to run, Paris Pinnacle Party showed the way by two. Directors Chair next with Lassitude on her outside Incendiary on the far outside and back to the rail for Neon Moon. A gap of two back to Sensation between Say Bye Bye and Folded Wings, another gap to Demanding Commander, Surrey, Ship House and Curlina was the back marker.
Around the big turn and into the lane, they flew past the three-sixteenths pole and Paris Pinnacle Party was in front by a length. Directors Chair cutting into the lead as Neon Moon now moved up to apply pressure. A length to Lassitude, Incendiary on her flank, back to the inside for Sensation now showing some interest, Say Bye Bye on the extreme outside, then Folded Wings on the rail. Surry with racing room, Ship House down the center of the track, Curlina and Demanding Commander.
Inside the final sixteenth, the tides had turned as Paris Pinnacle Party had done enough partying for one afternoon… Directors Chair up to take the lead, Sensation had split horses and was closing fastest of all. Lassitude on the flank of the leader, Neon Moon towards the inside, Say Bye Bye from the outside, Surrey still with a chance, Incendiary , then Folded Wings, Ship House from the far outside and the others were done for the day.
Now to the final 150-yards and the finish, Sensation kept pushing and moved up to stick a neck in front of Directors Chair, the others were fighting it out for the minor shares but this was a two horse battle to the wire and as they crossed the finish line, Sensation proved too much and took the win by a quarter-length. Directors Chair in second, three-quarters of a length better than the stubborn Lassitude third, heading out Say Bye Bye in fourth. Surrey was fifth, Paris Pinnacle Party tiring to be on even terms with Incendiary in sixth. Folded Wings eighth, Ship House ninth, Neon Moon tenth, Demanding Commander eleventh and Curlina closed this one out.
Sensation is a 2yo bay filly by Apples To Oranges – Good Line, by Decima and she was bred in Cal by her owner, Mb Stables. This was her second win from five starts, and that is back-to-back wins. She now shows earnings of $285.640 and it looks like the big barn will have some tough choices to make, come BC Day as he will once again be loaded. Congrats to the connections!

Sensation mid-pack while unhurried to the lane, responded when asked, split horses 3p, all out to the finish, won driving. Directors Chair tracked the pace to the furlong marker, 5p for the drive, brief lead, just missed in a game effort. Lassitude second flight 3p to the lane, drifted slightly through the drive, no excuse. Say Bye Bye mid-pack racing 3p, fanned out for the drive, best foot too late. Surrey well back to the lane, shifted to the inside looking for running room, good late effort. Paris Pinnacle Party set the pace to the furlong marker, headed, faded. Incendiary gave an even effort while no threat. Folded Wings was not a factor. Ship House trailed, passed tiring rivals wide. Neon Moon rail trip to the lane, lost some ground through the turn, surged up into contention at the furlong marker, stopped abruptly. Demanding Commander was outrun. Curlina was outrun.
