7 TP Ruby Stakes (GIII) [KYD]

Another TC prep, another Mb Stables win, and another swing and a miss for us handicapping the Ruby Stakes (GIII). Ello Santa, the 4/1 favorite, looked formidable winning this one, as the one length final margin looked a bit more than that (update needed) to me… regardless, it was an impressive run down the lane for the bay gelding and you really have to wonder how many horses this mega outfit will have qualified for the KYD. That was the first win on the main track, since being acquire via private purchase for $150.000, back in Oct of last season.
A pair of long-shots were second and third as Nakamura Stables’ Dragon, a draw-in off of the AE list, used his speed to press the pace throughout and take the second-place money at 60/1 odds. Fighter Ship, from the Grimley barn, a 23/1 outsider, closed from well off of the pace to grab the show money. That was only his fourth lifetime start, fresh off of a maiden win… watch this one! It was another three-quarters of a length to Team 7 Illusions Declaration, another lightly race colt, making only his fourth start.. coupled with his second in the Battaglia, he’s another tough nut that could be in the gate for the KYD.
The final running time was 1:48.02 for the mile and a eighth, over the Fast TP oval. Six lengths covered the field of thirteen and we had three scratches, Domestic Product, Hazardous, In Good Order.
