KD Ladies Turf – Grade III
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $1,000.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.
This had the usual look of a big field at HRP with all 13 runners covered by a half dozen lengths and the first six by a length. In those circumstances the big-name trainers usually find a way into the frame, and it was Mb’s colors that were favored in the photo finish. A note here as I cover the first four home, La Terrifiant trailed in tenth, her worst finish in all of her 60 races and whilst we are used to the form book being up and down these days it does seem quite ominous that she has failed to get into the first three twice in a row. Here’s hoping that there is another big win in the great mare but if there isn’t we will all be looking forward to what she can produce when she goes to the paddocks.

If ever there was a lesson for the players here at HRP, then this was one they should take notice of. Managing a four-year-old can be a skill that takes experience and there is none better than Mb Stables to learn those sorts of lessons from. Good three-year-olds lose their weight allowance when they turn four and very often their improvement curves do not start climbing again to take that into account until the second part of the year. Thus, we see many great three-year-olds battling away in grade ones in the early part of the year and not reaching the heights they did at three. That is the lesson to be learnt here, this filly ran just three times in the first part of the year with two of those races being at overnight level, now wind on to the last 5 weeks and we see three stakes wins in a row, that is horse management at its best.
The pace was strong here and she was close enough to it to feel the lungs burning but she still had the finish in her legs and managed to get home by a neck. I have a feeling this filly may be a top filly going forward and we may not have seen the best of her yet.

The sprinter was taken back to help her see out the mile and she flew home and only just missed. An on-pace sprinter she ran a cracker today but needed the gaps to come at the right times and they just needed to come a stride or two earlier. In the end she unceremoniously shoved the great La Terrifiant aside to make her effort and was in front two strides after the line to the Turf King could rightfully feel they were unlucky today.
3rd Inquisition Arindel Centeno D E
Three wide gates went forward just as it says in the script, and it was this one that made the lead and ran a real game race to end up third. This was no soft lead and she worked really hard but, in the end, just had nothing left in her legs. One of those that seems to run well from the wider gates that can be an important attribute on this new engine, and I feel there are more good runs to come from her.
4th Toxins London Racing Prat F
A much better effort after just an average run in the Diana she is clearly very good but today just got too many horses in front of her in what was a difficult race to pick a path in. She is a quality filly and there are plenty more big wins to come.
