Mickey started the race as an overlooked 20-1 shot and ended it a BC champion in an exciting contest. The son of Proud Chai took the lead at the head of the stretch and stayed there to the wire to win by a length.

Nevada Silver, Boardwalk Empire, Americas Hope and Certified Yank came away fastest and quickly moved away by 2 lengths. Last Way To The Beac, Aerialist, and Keeper Of Time made up the second flight. Mickey had good position on the outside and just behind him to the inside where Afterburner, Billy Joel and Key Biscayne. Simple Magic, Letters By The Bay and Trouville finished out the field.

Mickey went into the first turn four wide and drifted out even farther as he set his sights on the leaders. Certified Yank led the way be a head over Boardwalk Empire. To their inside, Nevada Silver and Americas Hope still held their positions. Aerialist saved ground on the inside just half a length behind Mickey.

Under the wire the first time, Certified Yank and Boardwalk were stride for stride with Nevada Silver still hanging on in third. Mickey tucked in behind the leaders and bided his time with Americas Hope to his inside. Aerialist on the rail in sixth had room on the inside but bided his time. Last Way To The Beac and Key Biscayne sat just behind them.

Into the backstretch for the second time, Mickey started whittling away on the lead but was still fourth behind Boardwalk Empire, Certified Yank and Nevada Silver. Midway on the backstretch Mickey got past Certified Yank and Nevada Silver and hooked up with Boardwalk Empire. Aerialist edged up on the inside to challenge Americas Hope for fifth. Key Biscayne started his run from mid-pack.

On the turn for home, Mickey took the lead and drew away by a length and a quarter. Aerialist came off the rail and powered his way through horses to get up in second. Key Biscayne had two lengths to make up. Into the stretch, Aerialist and Key Biscayne separated themselves from the pack, but they couldn’t make up ground on Mickey who hit the wire a length in front.
