Bewitch – Grade III
1 1/2 Mile Turf Stake Purse $150.00 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Midnight Sneaking Invicta Group Llc Gaffalione T
Turf has been the salvation for this filly since she switched at the start of the year. This was her third win from four 2019 starts and all of them were on this surface. With a slower pace than there was in the Orchid where she ran on too late she was able to lay up much closer putting in the fastest splits of the race in the last two furlongs. There was very little in it at the end but she just did enough for a nose win and the biggest of her career so far.
2nd Fancy Princess Alabarda Stable Ortiz J L
It is such a shame that this huge priced outsider that ran such a brave race to be beaten just a few inches walked away with just an eleven dollar profit. But such is life at HRP and though she didnt fill her trainers pockets with gold i am sure she gave them a big thrill. Showing once again how little there is between allowances and stakes races she ran the race of her life just faltering in the final strides to go down by a nose. She, like the winner has shown lots of improvement since being switched to turf and there must be a decent race in her future.
3rd Blue Jeans First Class Stable Lanerie C J
This horse made up loads of ground late and considering just the average pace she ran such a fast last quarter mile that i suspect she went as fast as most sprinters. She continues to run well at graded level but to start to win more often she may have to find a way of sticking closer to the pace early on.
4th Smokin Nebulae Drabfantasy Velazquez J R
Ran on well enough but never got seriously close enough to trouble the first three. I think she may have lost a bit of her zip this year even though she is still working very well and i think i will only be willing to give her a few more chances.
