Sunday September 27, 2015
Belmont Park
Purse: $200.000
Welcome to Elmont N.Y and the home of Belmont Park. On Sunday the twelve running of the GIII Miss Grillo will take place. Last year Chili King Stables sent out Jawbone to a neck victory under Joel Rosario in a time of 1:40.40 for the mile and sixteenth over the sod. The owner will try making it two in as row as the barn sends out T S Manhattan. A field of twelve young ladies are set to go so lets see who showed up here at Belmont Park.
1) Swarley Kapai ~ went wire to wire in her last start at Saratoga while trying the sod for the first time. Winning by five lengths against State Breds going five and a half furlongs will now be stretched out for owner / breeder Grimley. She showed so life with the move to the sod and ownership hopes she shows life stretching out. She will get Rajiv Maragh to climb aboard.
2) Complusmentus ~ she was second in her last start which came at DMR in the OT Juvenile Fillies. Going a mile that day she was another filly in here trying the sod for the first time, but was second by a length. She has now finished second in three straight starts and hopes for a turn around here on Sunday. She will go out for owner Second Chance Farms and will be ridden by Junior Alvarado.
3) Shes Proud ~ broke through in her last start at Saratoga getting up in the final furlong to win by a length under Luis Saez. That was also her first time stretching out for owner / breeder Spark Racing. She tries the Stakes competition for the first time and hopes to break through like she did in her last start. She will go out with Luis Saez once again as he rides the filly for the third straight time.
4) Spider ~ will make her debut on the sod on Sunday. Her last start came at DMR in the GI DMR Debutante where she finished fifth by a length. She has moved forward in all three of her starts getting better with each one. Now owner Blushing Meadows hopes she takes to the sod and grabs a score. She will get Angel Arroyo to hop aboard.
5) T S Manhattan ~ comes into Sunday off three consecutive second place finishes. The last one came over the inner sod at Saratoga and she finished a length behind against Maidens. Now she skips Maiden Company and will take a shot here on Sunday. She goes out for owner / breeder Chili King Stables who tries winning this race in back to back years and Joel Rosario will pilot the filly.
6) You Gotta Believe ~ ships in from DMR where she has run her last two races over the turf course. In those starts she was second by a length and broke through in her last one breaking her Maiden by a neck. She will try her luck on the east coast as she looks to try Stakes competition for the first time. She will stretch out for owner Aarons Hosses and brings along a west coast jockey as Rafael Bejarano climbs aboard.
7) Farleys Sky ~ was a winner going away in her last start as she broke her Maiden by four lengths at Monmouth to break her Maiden going a mile and sixteenth the same as the distance here in the GIII Miss Grillo on Sunday. She also was second two back in her first try on the sod against Maidens at Woodbine. She likes the grass and looks to make a successful step up on Sunday for owner Serenity Stables. She will get Elvis Trujillo to ride.
8) Jump Before You Look ~ is a winner of two in a row since moving to the sod two starts back. A winner at Louisiana Downs to break her Maiden as she then shipped to the spa in Saratoga and was able to defeat State Bred Allowance Company by a length. She will now look to deliver another victory to owner / breeder Axeman and the owner will sends out Kendrick Carmouche to ride.
9) Lady Lois Of Wine ~ was third in her last try as she ran in the $100.000 Johnson at Saratoga finishing a length behind the winner. She has yet to find the winners circle here this year, but has finished in the money in five of those six starts. Compared to the others she is like a veteran in here and with the experience owner / breeder Drabfantasy hopes she can deliver a possible winning run. She will go to the gate with Jose Ortiz aboard.
10) Eastern Sweetness ~ made her first start for new owner Rheingold Stables last time out against N1X at Monmouth and finished third beaten by just a half a length. That was her first try on the sod and with the nice run last time out ownership will step her up. She has been training here at Belmont Park and will look to make a run here on Sunday. She will go out with Pablo Fragoso in the saddle.
11) Eleven Black ~ she comes in off her Maiden score as she beat State Bred Maidens up at Saratoga by a length as the post time favorite going a mile and sixteenth. Her other start on the sod two back was a good run here at Belmont Park finishing second by a half a length. She will now try the step up for owner / breeder Night Mare Racing and should be in the mix as she will grab Javier Castellano to ride.
12) Tennessee Titan ~ makes just her third start on Sunday. A winner in her debut at MNR by four lengths she then tried Stakes competition at Saratoga in the $100.000 Bolton Landing and was off the board to finish sixth but just two lengths behind the winner. That last one was her first over the sod now will try stretching out in this one. She goes out for owner / breeder D J C Racing Stables and will get Chris DeCarlo to ride.
