Mo Mentum Filly Gives Mb Stables a Santa Ynez Stakes Win

She’s a Mo Mentum horse in name, but Mo Mentum Filly is the property of Mb Stables, and has been for over a year. She has always run well, but it took a little while before she would be entered against top competition. Once there, she has stepped up to the task, and her win in the Santa Ynez Stakes marks her second straight stake win. It was done in a way that we have been accustomed to seeing out of her, as typically she is close to the lead, but today a different style would be used, and she would look to come from behind. For Mb Stables, it marks the fifth time that he has won the Santa Ynez Stakes, with three of them happening over the last five years. D Davis is the winning jockey for the first time. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:22.23, which is similar to recent winning times. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.71)- From the rail, the winner’s stablemate, Apache Jenn goes out to the race lead, and she will have an advantage of about a length over Beach Towel (Winning Link Stables) and Landslide Victory (Fractious), who run evenly. The latter drew in due to the scratch of Sitting Bulls Champ. At Tea (Asgar) runs in the fourth spot, and about a length back, running on each side of her, it would be Moochi (Fractious) and Flawed Beauty (Williams9). In the heart of the pack, it’s Dime Moment (Asgar) and Line Of Flight (D J C Racing Stables). After about a length and a half, it’s Strom Up (Sheffler Stables) and End Of The Devil (Maxmillion Farm). Trailing are Cinnabon (Fractious) and the eventual winner, Mo Mentum Filly (Mb Stables).

(½ Mile- :46.08, Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Finishing the backstretch and moving around the turn, we don’t actually see much difference in the way things run. Apache Jenn is still out front, leading Beach Towel by half a length with Landslide Victory and Flawed Beauty still in a stalking position. One bit of movement we did see came from Dime Moment, as the Asgar trained filly drew closer with a nice gap in front of her between the two leaders for her to try and capitalize on in the stretch. The pack would tighten up, with End Of The Devil for the moment looking interesting with the opening on the rail. Mo Mentum Filly still had not made a move, and remained at the back, trailing by six lengths.

(Finish- 1:22.23)- As Apache Jenn leads the way, Mo Mentum Filly would catch a break as Flawed Beauty and At Tea courteously moved over a lane to the outside to provide Mo Mentum a clean lane directly in front of her. Wasn’t that nice of them? All kidding aside, At Tea was clearly tiring and was obviously drifting and Flawed Beauty was losing a bit of speed as well. Moochi did try and grab this lane before Mo Mentum Filly got there, but D Davis wasn’t going to let that happen. Mo Mentum Filly seized this opportunity and used her momentum to run right through the middle of the field. At that point, the race was hers. Dime Moment, Beach Towel, and even Apache Jenn were running gamely, and Flawed Beauty was hanging around, too. But none of them had anything for the powerful stride of Mo Mentum Filly as she gets the win in a photo over Dime Moment with Beach Towel, Apache Jenn, and Flawed Beauty all close by. End Of The Devil finished sixth, because of course she did, beating Cinnabon, Strom Up, Moochi, Line Of Flight, Landslide Victory, and At Tea.

About The Winner- Mo Mentum Filly, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by D Davis, is a three-year-old filly by Cherokee Sunrise and is out of Samantha. She was bred as a yearling in Ontario by Mo Mentum Farm, but despite that naming of her, would never race for that barn. Instead, Mb Stables picked her up in the December 2022 auction when she was still an unraced horse, from Arkansas Elite, for $17.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in eight starts, her second stake win and first graded win. Her career earnings are now $236.750.
