Sunday we saw D J C Racing Stables win their 52nd stakes title of the season, this time with two year old bay colt Moment In Time out of sire Local Hero. The home bred joins the other 108 two year old winners for this trainer this season, accounting for approximately 30 % of his total victories coming from juvenile runners.

First off my apologizes for stating that the purse was a full $200.000 for this event instead of the actual $100.000, but in any case the eventual winner was more then happy to just be visiting the winners enclosure for the second time in his career, and capturing his first ever stakes title. When it comes to racing in restricted New York events, Dom from D J C Racing Stables seems to always have someone ready to show up for the party. This was this trainers second etching on the Notebook trophy as he was able to win this event with Awesome Ruler. He would go on to win two more restricted NY events in his career, so hopefully Moment In Time will be able to capture a few more as well.

Placing second in a tight battle with Team 7 Illusions Peter E Peat at the wire, La Canada Racehorses Boardwalk would take the purse in the photo over the 35-1 longshot. This is now Boardwalk’s second runner-up placing in his past two stakes tries, and it wont be long before he gets top honors in the future. His numbers have been on the rise since the start back in mid June, and as he matures and gets stronger, he will definitely be one to watch as a sophomore. As for Peter E Peat, this was just the third start of his career and his first stakes try since breaking his maiden last time out. He is obviously going to make his mark in racing as well.

Final purse share went to inside runner Starship Rage ( Mb Stables ) who was able to close to within a length of the eventual winner after he also was coming off his maiden victory. Its looking like NY state will be well represented next season in some of the prime events with this group of runners.

While Great Britain ( John Henry ) and Kryptonite Failure ( Aer Stables ) would take the fifth and sixth place finishes respectively, it was a disappointing day for even money favorite Sizzla Kalonji ( Night Rider Stables ) as he was keen to participate in the early stages, but lacked the late effort down the stretch. He would place some three lengths shy after a brilliant win in the $200 NY Breeders Futurity at the end of September. Time off may have been just a bit too long.
