A strong card of stakes races led us up to the Pegasus races at GP on Saturday, and older females that like to run forever on the grass had their opportunity to shine in the La Prevoyante Handicap. This is one of those races that seemed to be a bit up for grabs, though the betting public found Cmonyalll to be very appealing, making her a big favorite. It would be one of the longer shots on the board that would grab the victory, as Mon Dieu hit the wire first to win at 10/1. She was not among our picks. The four year old filly is trained by Mo Mentum Farm and was ridden to victory by M Franco. For each, it is their first win in the La Prevoyante. Congratulations to them! The winning time was 2:26.60, not quite as fast as previous years, but all that was needed. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/2 Mile- :50.41)- Down the backstretch and around the opening turn, Build Battle is the early leader. The Mb Stables entry holds a lead by nearly a full length as they hit the start finish line on the opening lap of the race. She is one close by on each side of her, and Mon Dieu, the race’s eventual winner from Mo Momentum Farm, is one of them while being on the inside. On the outside, it’s TwinTowersRacing’s The Storm Is Here. Cmonyall is fourth on the rail for Arindel and she runs evenly with Catawba, a Sccj Stables trained filly. Behind them, we have a gap of at least three lengths to the two trailers, Desegregation Bus (First Flight Stable) and Scarlet And Gray (Nakamura Stables).

(3/4 Mile- 1:15.04)- Things tighten up between the top three down the frontstretch, and early in the clubhouse turn, Mon Dieu takes over the top spot from Build Battle. That one is still second, and within half a length while The Storm Is Here keeps pace running on the outside. Those three are stalked by Cmonyalll and Catawba, and the large gap to Desegreation Bus and Scarlet And Gray remains.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- As the field moved into the backstretch for the final time, Mon Dieu pulls out to a lead of about a length and a half and you had to wonder if she was going to start to get away from the rest of the field. Her advantage levels out over the backstretch, and she comfortably handles the turn with little difficulty. Build Battle is unable to keep up with her, and the two stalkers, Cmonyall and Catawba can’t make a move on her, either. Only The Storm Is Here looked like she could still be a challenger for the stretch run as she continued her wide trip. Nothing was happening with the other two.

(Finish- 2:26.60)- It’s all Mon Dieu in the stretch, as she is able to hold on to her lead all the way to the wire without any other rival getting close to her. It will go down as “only” being a length victory, but The Storm Is Here was soundly beaten and never mounted a winning push. Cmonyall prevails in a three way photo for show with Build Battle and Catawba while Desegreation Bus and Scarlet And Gray put up duds today.

About The Winner- Mon Dieu, trained by Mo Mentum Farm and ridden to victory by M Franco, is a four year old filly by Cherokee Scope and is out of the late Komodo Freestyle. She was bred a yearling in Ontario by Mo Mentum Farm, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in 18 starts, her third stake win and her second graded win. Her career earnings are now $457.460.
