Mon Dieu, the only sophomore filly in the race, got the best of Zalinda in a 9-furlong duel to claim victory in Sunday’s G2 Canadian on an action-packed day at WO. Crossing the wire over a bogged-down course in 1:50.07, the Mo Mentum Farm homebred secured the first graded score in her 14-5-3-1 career to improve her bankroll to $319.820.
Breaking from stall five, Mon Dieu got away just a tad behind Zalinda, but was quickly alonside that one before taking a half-length lead. There would be minimal change throughout fractions of :47.75, 1:12.03, and 1:36.99 as Mon Dieu held the advantage from the two-path while Zalinda stayed glued to her inside flank.
With a furlong to go, Mon Dieu drifted out a bit and took almost a full length lead, but Zalinda refused to yield. Moving out on the course, Zalinda clawed back little-by-little, but Mon Dieu simply would not let her by. Mon Dieu hit the wire a long nose/short head in front of her rival with Stellar Agent rallying for the show about a length and a quarter behind. Along Comes Mary completed the order of finish on the yielding WO turf.
Congratulations to Mon Dieu and Mo Mentum Farm on their victory in the G2 Canadian Stakes at WO!
