The Matriarch – Grade I
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $300.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st La Terrifiant Smokey Stover Tunon M
Well, who says money can’t buy success? In truth, this would’ve been the likely one two whoever owned them but $2,751.000 ensured that it was Smokey Stover who took home the bacon and the bread today. This brilliant mare may have been bought for her longer term breeding potential but she looks to have plenty more miles on the clock after this cosy win and I suspect we will see her on the track for a while yet. With over $5,500.000 in her purse winnings so far she is one of the most successful racers in training at the moment and who’s to say she wont be back next year for a third BC assault.
2nd Pirate Petranella Smokey Stover Bejarano R
Went forward from her wide draw which it seems is the only time she goes forward as she seems to be a deep closer from inside draws. HRP anomalies aside she has age on her side against her brilliant stable mate and i would imagine that the stable will be looking to dominate the turf routes next year with these two lovely girls.
3rd Apache Snow Wood Duck Stables Bisono J
A hugely impressive run by this three year old who didn’t have the form on the board to beat home a few of these but stuck to her guns to chase home two very good fillies. After a mixture of overnight runs and ungraded efforts she now looks ready to launch her graded career although of course turning four is always a challenge. With the improvement she has been showing though i reckon she could be a real danger next year and is certainly one to keep an eye on for 2021.
4th Zee Model Gdp Inc Fuentes Ru
I thought she may have a chance against La Terifiant after pushing her to a head in the First Lady but after chasing a fast pace early on she gave in pretty easily down the stretch. I was a little disappointed with this effort but at the end of a year where she has had ten races and 8 of those at stakes level she may just be ready for a little break.
