13 FG New Orleans Classic (GII)
$500.000 4yo&Up 11/8th Mile Dirt 123lbs
A huge day of thoroughbred action here at FG, and we get a top notch group of older handicap types set to go a mile and an eighth in the New Orleans Classic (GII). You want madness, look at this field… tough as nails up and down, so where do we go? We get the return matchup of Blazing v Spankersville, but can one of the others upset the applecart?
I think not and will land on Blazing as the top pick today. That was an impressive win the Pegasus World Cup and with no added weight (they all lose a pound) I see this one continuing his dominance and getting the job done.
Let’s stay on that note and put Spankersville in the second spot. The thirteen post was a death sentence in that GP race, yet he still found a way to be fourth only a length back. He’s an absolute monster and could flip the script on the top pick… no doubt.
I’ll go to the far outside and put Cheap Ways on my ticket, as well. He’s not cheap, but he always finds a way to bring home a check, that is a fact. A nice win at SA last out taking the San Pascal (GII), has been working well and looks ready to deliver in a big way.
It’s a mixed emotions kind of a day, but this is a great race and certainly should lift the spirit.
