In this edition of the Levine Stakes there was some ran which caused the track to be muddy. When the horses loaded into the gate Forrest Bay was the 3/3 race favorite would he be able to live up to this and win the race? As the gates opened up and into the first ¼ of the race, Forrest Bay jumped right out to the lead with TS Ten sitting a half length behind him in second with Lonely Town 2 ¼ lights behind the leader in third. Halfway through the race the top two horses had not changed but Montalcino had hit a nice stride and had moved up to third. The ½ mile splits in this race went in 47 second flat. With two furlongs to go Montalcino appeared as if he was shot out of a cannon and blew past TS Ten and took dead aim Forrest Bay and appeared as if he was going to roll right on by, which is exactly what he did less than half a furlong later. With one furlong to go there were no horses that looked to be a danager to Montalcino as he was pulling away from the field. Forrest Bay was hoping that he could hold of Lonely Town for second….which he could not do. Montalcino proved today that he loves the off going and won in an impressive fashion. Let’s take a look at how the race broke down and the payouts.
