These CC races can be crazy and the CC Canterbury, a five-and-a-half-furlong sprint for the gents is just that… wacky! Let’s start with there are no LA-bred horses, so throw that crazy added money out the window. We have horses that ran in graded races, last out, heck we have one that was in a BC race last out… we also have a horse that started for $14.000 claimer last out… weight? How about anything from 121 to 127 pounds? Add in that it’s a fourteen-horse field (with an AE) on this tight turf course… yeah, this should be a hoot to watch on this viewer.
So we have the rules of engagement out of the way, now… who ya got?!? I think Fiddlestyck will be the post time favorite, since his only off-the-board finish this year was in the BC Turf Sprint (GI), where he was only two lengths back… but, and it’s a big but, can you jump on him with 127lbs? I like Island Drumbeat quite a bit, but his twelve post is tough, along with the fact that he has been more of a route/marathon type. Trippi Bay has a couple of stakes wins, but carries 125lbs, and Freed Up, who has been tough in dirt sprints, won over his first turf start last out, although it was at the Alw level. I think you see where I’m going with this… I have more questions than answers and this looks like a spot where I’ll go get a hotdog and skip the windows. If you are looking for something to bet, I’d run with the Green Card selections and hope for the best.
