ONT Matron Stakes – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Two For One, trained by Mb Stables
HRP has got that predictable as far as three year old beating older horses that even Mb Stables would rather take a financial hit and remove a multiple stakes winner against his own twice winning three year old. With the best horse in the race by ten lengths removed because of a wide draw and having to give weight to its younger rivals it left the race to the three year olds to battle out. This filly stepped up on her previous effort to come out on top pretty easily beating the horse that beat her last time in a faster finishing time.
2nd Brian Fellow, trained by Wolfs Den
Stalked the lead but could only keep on at the one pace to finish second. This was a pretty good effort for a horse that was winning a $2.500 claimer at the start of the year and i am sure the trainer will be thrilled by this result.
3rd Dont Freak Out, trained by Eastren Equine
She did really well considering the weight allowance the first two were getting from her but she could only manage third a length off the winner.
4th Stacked, trained by Smokey Stover
Beat the winner in her last race but this time was running off the wide gate and had her chance ruined by the stupid wide gate speed push. Of course she weakened off the lead finishing fourth and beaten two lengths.
SUMMARY
I am not sure what i am most bored with in writing about these races these days. The outside speed push killing a horses chances or the fact the three year olds just have to turn up to beat the best older horses. Either way this race looked pretty predictable at the start and sure enough it was.
