Three Year Olds
A field of seven are going to line up in the other three year old derby this weekend but this one will be on the west coast at Los Alamitos in California. It’s a decent field but the standout is Motor City for sure. A sort of small field but there is definitely some talented three year olds in the race.
1. Storming Cobra (11-3-2-1 $235.950), trained by Mo Mentum Farm
This black colt by Snakie is getting closer every time he runs but just hasn’t broken through again since his Davis Stakes win at TAM this winter. I do think he fits good in here though but I personally don’t think he is a winner. He may be a third or fourth place finisher to me but not a winner.
2. Bad English (11-1-1-3 $90.720), trained by Maxmillion Farm
A pretty well battle tested horse here he has ran in a bunch of stakes in his career but has never found the winners circle in any of them. His only win was a statebred maiden race and then he went right back into stakes after that. I don’t think he has much of a chance but maybe he’ll shock me.
3. Irrevocable Trust (9-3-0-3 $56.870), trained by Nakamura Stables
I’m not sure how this horse is going to stack up in here with his recent win being an optional claimer at FE. This is a very big step up in class from that race and I’m not sure if he will be good enough to even hit the board in here. Maybe he is another though who will shock me but I don’t see it happening.
4. Position Of Power (10-2-2-0 $65.620), trained by D J C Racing Stables
This recently turned gelding will he coming from the barn of the wizard D J C Racing Stables. He hasn’t ran too great since his allowance win at HOU in March and I don’t really think he will be up to the task at all in here. A big longshot who I don’t think has much of a chance at all in this spot.
5. It’s All Over (9-3-3-0 $234.020), trained by Mb Stables
If this horse runs like he did in his last three he could definitely be the one that could upset Motor City in here. He’s won a stakes and ran seconds against older horses in grade threes in this stretch and I think with him being back in with three year olds only he could definitely win this race.
6. Newsnight (15-4-3-2 $430.420), trained by Sir Daniel Martin
There is no doubt this horse has seen plenty of miles in his short life as he has already went to post fifteen times on his career. He won the Springboard Mile at RP as a two year old but hasn’t won a race since then. If he runs back to that performance he wouldn’t surprise me at all but he will have to run the same race.
7. Motor City (11-4-2-1 $797.200), trained by Joshua Stables
The class of the field right here he has been in a lot tougher company than most of these other ones have been. He ran sixth in the Kentucky Derby and then ran seventh in the Belmont Stakes last out before being purchased to the tune of seven hundred dollars. He is my top pick of the race.
Summary
Well Motor City looks like a standout to me in here and has to be my top pick of the race. Its All Over looks like the definite best upset chance in here and the rest of them are just going to have to run the race of their lives to win. Good luck to everyone who is in the race and hopefully it’s an exciting one.
