In this field we’ve got a group of seven fillies and mares to contest what will probably be a muddy or sloppy track for this edition. We’ve got some stakes and graded stakes winners and a couple making a rise in class. Look for a slop lover because that’s what looks like what the track will be.

1. Jesse The Stewardess (3-2-0-0 $29.560), trained by Team 7 Illusions, ridden by R Chirinos 124lbs

A maiden winner just a little over three months ago she has been on the improve. She won an allowance race last out in a dead heat at FG. This will be her first start against stakes company let alone graded stakes company. She has never been on an off track before so that will also be a big question mark.

2. Laffin In Texas (16-5-1-1 $691.810), trained by Sanny Village, ridden by J Pimentel 124lbs

This mare will be coming into this race off a somewhat long layoff. She hasn’t ran since late January when she ran seventh in the HOU Ladies Classic. She didn’t run so well that day but I think she may be better this time. She has never been on an off track though so who knows how she will handle it.

3. Cheerful Goddess (22-5-2-2 $197.110), trained by TwinTowers Racing, ridden by I Ortiz Jr 124lbs

One of the most battle tested as of late she has ran in two grade one races in a row. She ran sixth in the Apple Blossom last start bout only got beaten a length. She has never ran in the top three in four starts on an off track so she is very questionable over a wet surface. Good chance but not a good off track horse.

4. Updated (14-6-1-2 $885.360), trained by Mb Stables, ridden by R J Albarado 124lbs

The most accomplished runner in the field she won the grade one Spinster last year on a muddy track at KEE. This will only be her second start this year so she might be better than her last start when she didn’t fire her best shot. She won a grade one on the mud last year so the rain will not hurt her.

5. Marquesa (19-4-5-2 $102.200), trained by Treaux Farms, ridden by K Gomez 124lbs

The second lowest earner in the field she ran second last time in the Henson Handicap at SUN by a length. She ran very good that day and could be on the improve coming into this race. She’s only ran once on an off track and it was a second place finish so she might like the off track to a certain degree.

6. Shes A Beauty (7-4-1-2 $205.830), trained by Mb Stables, ridden by F Pennington 124lbs

The most consistent in the field she has never been out of the top three in her short career. She won a stake last start in the Top Flight Handicap on the mud at AQU. She likes a muddy track and she really might be improving the best out of anyone else. She’s two for two on an off track so she really likes the mud.

7. Osmium (13-5-0-4 $468.380), trained by D J C Racing Stables, ridden by J R Velasquez 124lbs

The only entry from the wizard she is a legitimate chance and she is a multiple graded stakes winner. She was a not so great seventh last out in the Apple Blossom but I think she will turn it around in here. Only one start on an off track she didn’t get in the top four so that’s another questionable mud horse in the field.

Summary

Obviously with rain in the forecast the question is who will love the track and who will hate the track. I think Shes A Beauty likes the mud the most and she may be getting gold at the right time. Other ones I think will run good are Osmium and Cheerful Goddess. Very tough race and good luck to all.
