1 Cold Case Nakamura Stables Cancel E

Claimed out of the John Henry Stable in August last year this five year old didn’t do much in his first start for the new stable but his works are telling a different story. With no changes to adds it was clear that the new owner felt that changing the running style was the answer but that failed as he rushed to an early lead but faded badly. His recent works say the trainer has found an instruction that works and i expect a much better run from him today.

2 Lion Lake Night Rider Stables Vargas J A Jr

This pretty consistent five year old hasn’t really been a factor at this level but did run nicely in the CC jewel last time and may have started to climb up his improvement curve. This will be the acid test today but he gets the perfect draw and an in form jockey so i expect a strong effort.

3 Mad Monster The Sidley Stud Ortiz J L

The trainer tends to use up the conditions before committing to stakes races and this is just the type they have had success with in the past. A good effort to be narrowly beaten into third in the Tenacious Stakes last time which said he was ready for a step up in grade so he must be rated a chance, He can be a little inconsistent so he could be a risky betting proposition.

4 He Needsa Manzillian Mo Mentum Farm Lezcano J

Recently bought as a rising six year old for $100 so clearly the new owner feels there is something un-tapped here. Generally racing in high end claimers these days he is a solid type who will be competitive especially as he has been very good on the gallops recently.

5 Downward Roll Big Jd Racing McCarthy T

Now a nine year old he may have a few creaks and groans but he is still a useful sort who always gives a good account of himself. The veteran of 56 races he has won 16 of them so clearly isn’t over the hill yet and his last two races have both seen black type placings.

6 El Gran du Light Nakamura Stables Hernandez Be

Bought pretty cheaply he had his adds changed and has been showing some improvement on the gallops after a good second first up for the new trainer. The draw is awkward and he has drawn the short straw as far as jockeys go but i would still rate him a big chance of things go his way.

7 Shoot To Kill Night Rider Stables Carmouche K

Drawn the car park he took a long time to break his maiden but has been showing improvement since. I am not sure he has improved enough to win this but he gets a chance here and may be able to sneak a small cheque.

SUMMARY

A tough race to call, i think it will between El Gran du Light, Cold Case and He Needsa Manzillion.
