Nebulistic Does the Business in Grable Stakes

Grable Stakes
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up Foaled In CA.

1st Nebulistic Barcelona Farms Van Dyke D

When I tipped this horse to win, I didn’t think that the odds Monkeys would once again display their limited IQ and put her up at 50/1. But I am sure I wasn’t the only one to throw my Disney Dollars at the Bookies and she ended going off at a far more realistic 4/1, still in my mind good odds.
There is no telling how good this filly could have been had she formed a relationship with the draw monster, but it seems the big green and sometimes nasty random number generator hates her. Thus, she has run 50% of her races with a very wide draw which includes EVERY graded two-year-old she has ever run in being from gate ten or worse.
Today however draw wasn’t going to be an issue and the filly managed win number six from ten starts which is a great record when you consider her bad luck. Picking up from midfield she got the win by a quarter length. It is an interesting footnote that her win in this by a much shorter margin was actually in a slower time than her win over the same course and distance as a two-year-old. Maybe she is going to get her improvement kick as a four-year-old and if she does, she could be a superstar.

2nd Moment To Dream Alydar Stables Cedillo A

Went off as favorite and carried a good position and looked likely until the winner went by. It is really fascinating that both the first two had won the DMR Debutante at grade one over course and distance as two-year-olds and fought out the finish here. She has been kept out of the limelight since struggling as a three-year-old but like Nebulistic may just have a later development curve because she was very competitive here. That can happen when they excel as two-year-olds, they hit a high point and then things level out before getting going again later in life.

3rd Lise Charmel Wood Duck Stables Bravo J

Came home in some of the best splits in the race and looks like a really progressive three-year-old that may give the stable some fun next year. This was only her seventh race so there is more to come from this home bred and just looking at her races and the way she runs she may end up as a distaff type.

4th English Charm Zoeller Desormeaux K J

Going back to last from gate one is basically the kiss of death but for some reason Kent Desmoreux or at least his HRP AI Equivalent thought this was a great plan. She flew home for fourth but was never closer than at the line. To be fair to her AI Jockey she has done that before at this level and that may be a trainer’s choice or some other hidden attribute, but she never really had a chance and did pretty well to get as close as she did.
