As the 5 eager 2 year old horses entered the starting gate today at EVD the weather could not be any better as the track turned up fast for them. As the gates sprung open it was clear that two horses wanted the lead but only one of them could have it. The two horses locked up in battle where Jolly Charley and Red Aces, with Jolly Charley leading the pack and Red Ace right behind him. Big Buck was sitting third but ½ a furlong into the race he was already a length and a half off the pace. The opening quarter mile in this race went in 22 and 3 and Jolly Charley had stretched his lead over Red Ace to 1 length. Big Buck was still in 3^rd but was getting pressure from Nevski.   As the horses traveled to the half mile mark in the race the leader was still Jolly Charley and he was still looking fairly strong on the lead but was hoping his speed could hold up the next 1and ½ furlongs. Red Aces appeared to have given way and was moving his way back, but the danger horse looked to be Nevski as he had just hit his best stride. With just under a half furlong to go Nevski swallowed up the long time leader Jolly Charley and powered home to a very convincing victory. Jolly Charley did hold on for second place and a late run from the post time favorite got Midnight Path into 3^rd place. That run by Nevski shows that he could be on to bigger and better things from this race. Let’s take a look at how the race played out and the pay outs:
