Niagra Holds Off Late Chargers for Big Victory in CT Classic

Niagra owned by D J C Racing Stables held of the late charge of No Trippin owned by MB Stables and Hallelujah owned by Eastern Equine to take down the lion share of the $1,500.000 pot. There was an honest early half mile fraction (47 seconds) set by Kavorka owned by Jerry Garcia Racing. This pace proved to be taxing for Kavorka who faded down the stretch and finished eight. This honest fast pace allowed Niagra to sit in the garden spot and get a first run on all of the other competitors and he took over the lead just after the six furlong mark. Niagra then galloped away to a one length lead by the mile marker in a very fast 134 an 4. This is about the time that both No Trippin and Hallelujah started to hit their best stride and made a furious run at Niagra in the last ¼ mile however Niagra saved just enough to hold the hard charging closers for a ½ length victory.

I spoke with MB Stables after the race and he said that he thought No Trippin ran fantastic and that he couldn’t be happier for him. He also said that he was happy to see No Trippin return to top form. MB stables are pointing toward the Grade 2 Californian on May 30th for No Trippin’s next race.

I also spoke with D J C Racing Stables prior to this race about the future of Niagra. He said he likes to take it race by race but hopes to be back in the BC Classic again this year, then he will be off to a long and hopefully fruitful career at stud…..so come yearling times look for there to be another high priced new sire possibly throwing out monsters!
